Roblox is changing the eligibility to upload games on the platform

While some of the games on Roblox are cool, and blow up as a result – Grow a Garden springs to mind – there’s a lot of terrible stuff on the platform. Since many of the games have predominantly young player bases, it’s important that they’re not subjected to potentially dangerous experiences. Thankfully, Roblox is making some changes to make it harder to upload unsavoury games.

To publish games on Roblox, your account now needs to match certain criteria, with that changing depending on who your game is targeted at. This doesn’t affect what you need to do to play the best Roblox games that you’re already enjoying.

If you’re publishing games for players of all ages, you now need to be subscribed to Roblox Plus, pass the ID verification and age check, have two-factor authentication on, and have an account that’s considered to be “in good standing.”  The aim of those requirements is to stop bad actors from setting up new accounts, publishing harmful games, and putting them in front of children.

If your games are targeted at older players, aged 16 and over, you also need to have an account that’s “in good standing” if you want to publish on the platform. You also need to have an account at least two days old and pass the same age check. These requirements don’t apply if you’re solely making games for your own enjoyment, and don’t plan to publish them for other players to check out.

As Roblox says, the changes will hopefully “make it more difficult for bad actors to bypass our moderation systems.” They’ll also continue to monitor the platform to ensure things stay safe for everyone going forward. These changes will be rolled out in early June.
