Daredevil: Born Again season 2 episode 5 features an extended flashback centered on Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson’s friendship… and fans are wondering if one small line was a retcon, a blip from the writers, or just part of an ongoing conversation between friends.

“I think it was an ongoing discussion, not a one-time settled thing,” one fan wrote.
The best fan response, in my opinion, is the following: “I did think it was a bit weird hearing that but it doesn’t have to be a retcon. They renamed it while still in college on a drunk night, possible they forgot next morning and just accidentally slipped back to Murdock and Nelson for a brief time until this. Doesn’t break anything.”
The Netflix scene took place during law school… and the one we see in Born Again took place well after… so maybe it’s supposed to be a call-back to that special scene. Either way, it was so good to see Foggy again.
