Welcome to the weekend! It’s time to kick back, relax, and watch some great new to Netflix movies. After a hard week, there’s nothing better than unwinding with a movie, a drink, and some snacks. We can’t provide you with the last two, but on this page you’ll find links to our three choices of the best new to Netflix movies to watch this weekend.
This time around, we’ve picked out a fun satirical horror that was produced by Get Out director Jordan Peele, a brand new coming-of-age comedy, and the underrated final film in a modern horror trilogy. That should keep you going for the next few days.
3 new to Netflix movies to stream this weekend
HIM

This satirical horror asks how far you would go to be the best. It follows a rising star football player, Cam Cade (Tyriq Withers), who is offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to train with his idol, Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans). The trouble is that means joining him in a remote – and deeply sinister – compound in the middle of nowhere, and following his harsh and frequently bizarre training regime.
From there, things take a weird and possibly even supernatural turn. Directed by Justin Tipping and produced by Jordan Peele, HIM has a vicious sense of humor and goes to some weird places. It doesn’t touch Peele’s own work, but it’s a fun and intriguing film in its own right.

Roommates

This new coming-of-age comedy follows two mismatched college roommates. Devon (Sadie Sandler) is a naive young woman who asks the much more confident Celeste (Chloe East) to move in with her. Initially, it goes great: the two become fast friends and hang out all the time. As the college year progresses, however, the two roommates start to chafe at each other. Following a spring break in Panama City, things fall apart and soon the two are at all-out war.
Funny, relatable, and a dash chaotic, Roommates looks like a great comedy for the weekend. The presence of Natasha Lyonne and Nick Kroll also makes this one to watch.

Halloween Ends

The final film in David Gordon Green’s Halloween sequel series was not well-received on release. We’re not going to try and argue that it’s a secret lost masterpiece, but it’s an interesting movie and much better than its predecessor, the wretched Halloween Kills. Ends takes place a couple of years after that film, with the memory of serial killer Michael Myers’ last rampage still haunting the residents of Haddonfield, Illinois. Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell) is a young outcast who develops a dangerous obsession with Myers. It’s down to Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) to save the day once more.
Moving the focus off of Myers and onto a new villain (though the Shape is still lurking) is a bold choice, and while it only partially works, Halloween Ends is still an enjoyable and idiosyncratic way to round out the trilogy.
