FPS games are ubiquitous on consoles nowadays, but there was a time when the concept was so novel and rare that gamers would allegedly launch drinks at Seamus Blackley – often cited as the father of Xbox – for merely suggesting that Halo: Combat Evolved could be a good game. How dare he?Perfect Dark and Goldeneye 007 certainly proved FPS games could work without a mouse and keyboard, and were definitely noticeable steps up from what had been attempted before, but neither were quite as tight as the shooters that had thrived on PC for years – your Dooms and…

Rockstar Games has shut down concerns that GTA 6 could be impacted by a reported data breach. Following claims from hacker group ‘ShinyHunters’ that it had accessed private Rockstar Games data by posing as an internal service, the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption developer states that the breach included only “a limited amount of non-material company information.” The wait for the crime game’s arrival has been agonizing enough, and it’s even more of an unknown on PC, where we still have no confirmation of an actual release date. Security site The Cybersec Guru reported on Saturday April 11 that…

Keychron has updated its GitHub repository to include firmware source code, 3D model files, and even keycap and control knob designs for its K, L, P, Q, and V series decks in the last few days. While the former can be grabbed from a wider range of brands, any of Keychron’s HE models…

The Sunday Papers is our weekly roundup of great writing about (mostly) videogames from across the web. Sundays are for remembering the glorious sunshine you enjoyed but half a week ago, while looking out at eleven degrees Celsius’ worth of grey skies and drizzle. Did you know some people actually like rain? Imagine. The weather taste equivalent of forgoing a beautifully soft, Emperor-size memory foam mattress to sleep on a beach towel with some used needles poking out of it because “It’s more refreshing.” The ruin of humanity. What was I.. yes, the Sunday Papers. Good words to read. There…

The writing is on the wall for private World of Warcraft server network Turtle WoW. The District Court of California has ruled in favor of Activision Blizzard on the copyright infringement lawsuit filed in August against the group of fan-operated private servers. The ruling includes an immediate cease and desist order for Turtle WoW, which provides a range of alternative versions of the MMORPG on privately hosted servers. While Blizzard and Turtle WoW have reached a settlement in the wake of this decision, it’s likely this will spell the end for the third-party group. The World of Warcraft developer first…

Liminal space is scary enough without overanalyzing – and to be honest, I never once thought about what the Backrooms, or even those viral photos and videos of abandoned ’80s malls, could be a metaphor for… until I watched Exit 8. The film, which serves as an adaptation of the popular Japanese video game, pulls us out of reality and into a series of unending fluorescent-lit hallways, only to make us examine our own lives from a new perspective (both figuratively and physically). The movie stars Kazunari Ninomiya as The Lost Man, a young man who learns that his girlfriend is…
