Invincible changed the gender of Tech Jacket because Robert Kirkman wanted to fix a major comic book "shortcoming"
Invincible’s gender-swapped Tech Jacket helped fix a major comic “shortcoming” according to creator Robert Kirkman. In Kirkman’s Invincible comics, Tech Jacket is Zack Thompson, a hero perhaps best known for bonding with his father over each growing facial hair during their time apart.Invincible’s TV show opted for a different direction. Instead, the Prime Video adaptation features a different Tech Jacket: Zoe, played by Zoey Deutch. Same tech, same jacket, same can-do attitude – and a way for Kirkman to give a do-over to what was, back in the 2000s, a very homogenous cast.Article continues below You may like “One of the…
I’ve been thinking a lot about hands this week. Weird little things, covered in fingers and nails, always clenching and unclenching. Though, for once, they’re not on my mind because I can’t shake the realisation that they’re basically boney squids attached to my wrists. No, I’ve been thinking about hands because I’ve had my dirty mitts all over Masters of Albion and Sintopia, two god games which put meat-hooks front and centre. Masters of Albion is the new game from Peter Molyneux’s studio, 22cans, and, as you may have read, draws inspirations and mechanics from many of his previous greatest…
Nikita Buyanov, the creator and game director of Escape From Tarkov, states that the maps in his upcoming sci-fi shooter will be “four to five times the size of Tarkov’s,” revealing the mindblowing scale of the combat simulator he’s been working on for the last 18 months. Fragmentary Order, which is being developed by a new studio named Rant Gaming Studios rather than Battlestate, was announced in a trailer on April 16, giving us a first look at the highly anticipated FPS game. Buyanov states that, after help develop Escape From Tarkov for ten years, he felt “tired” and needed…
Overwatch Season 2's first balance patch targets Roadhog and Sombra yet again to players' dismay: "Just change after change every 2 minutes"
The only thing inevitable about Overwatch balance patches is that Roadhog/Sombra are always prime targets for nerfs/buffs. Look no further than Overwatch Season 2’s first balance pass, which sees Blizzard fiddle with both characters’ stats once again.Overwatch’s retail patch notes went live last night with sweeping changes that “aim to re-adjust heroes whose win rates have fallen further than intended since the start of Season 2,” according to the developers.Among the hero tweaks are a Roadhog buff that reduces the cooldown on his hook by one second and an even thinner Sombra buff (that actually only lightens a previous nerf),…
Microsoft will reportedly invite 7% of their US workers to retire early, as the Xbox division talk up "strong cost discipline"
Microsoft are reportedly offering early voluntary retirement to around 7% of their US-based employees in yet another effort to ‘right-size’ their trillion dollar business. The report in question is from CNBC, who cite an anonymous insider and share details from an alleged internal memo. Assuming they aren’t telling porkies, the one-off retirement program is a first for Microsoft. It’ll be available to US workers at senior director level and below, whose years of employment and age add up to 70 or higher. So you’d qualify for the scheme if you’re 50 and have worked at the company for 20 years.…
As World of Warcraft 12.0.5 hotfixes come thick and fast, Blizzard admits the patch "wasn't up to standard"
World of Warcraft patch 12.0.5 has been a nightmarish experience for players and, I’m sure, devs alike. The MMO’s latest update arrived riddled with bugs, impacting core systems like housing, Voidforge bonus rolls, and even class rotations and DPS. It’s one of the worst WoW patches I’ve seen, but Blizzard is, at least, sparing no effort to stabilize the game and fix up the myriad issues currently affecting it. The studio has now spoken up, thanking players for their patience while promising to do better. “The 12.0.5 patch launch was not up to our standards,” Blizzard’s statement opens, “and we…
There are lots of Pragmata Mass Produciton Array collectibles to find, many of which you won’t be able to get until you know how to destroy blue crystal-like misprints that block certain paths. It’s well worth backtracking through this New York-themed level too, as you can get lots of useful Cabin Coins and Pure Lunum that will help early on, as well as some excellent Mods that will serve you well for the rest of Pragmata. However, some of the collectible items are also quite difficult to find, especially those pesky Safe Boxes in the Shopping District. So, to help you…
"A wordless world that speaks": Lofsöng is like a Playdead game set in a Brutalist nuclear exclusion zone
Lofsöng is an ash-blown, top-down exploration game set on an Earth ravaged by nuclear winter, whose Brutalist structures form a sleeping, sunken language, revealed by sound. You are a “childlike figure” – notice the qualification – accompanied by a magic origami sculpture that refolds into such unlockable forms as gliders and sailboats, allowing you to zip ever more gracefully among the post-apocalyptic monoliths.
Though we fully expect to be swimming in premium currency and upgrade materials for a while at launch, there will come a time when new NTE codes are all we can think about. Once you unlock a few post-release characters, you’re going to wish you hadn’t blown all your materials on the starting line-up. That’s where these codes come in. NTE, or Neverness to Everness (which hardly rolls off the tongue, so NTE it is), is the latest from Hotta Studio: the gacha game group behind titles like Punishing Gray Raven and Tower of Fantasy. Never afraid to smash a…
