New Fortnite updates turns the game into Singstar and introduces Showdown Act 2

While Fortnite‘s Ballistic mode has been removed from the game today, a new update has added a lick of nostalgia to Festival. Alongside the arrival of Laufey, the new star of the Icon series, you can now sing along to songs in the mode Singstar style. Elsewhere, Showdown Act 2 has also begun, pitting two iconic characters against each other rather than focusing on the battle of factions.

From Thursday, April 16, there are now new ways to perform in Fortnite Festival. With Laufey at the centre of the action, you can “sing along in real time with any microphone that works in Fortnite on PC and Console” using the new Mic Vocals feature. I’d have never expected to see such a feature come to the battle royale game a few years ago.

You can use Pro Drums too, using a Rock Band 4 drum kit to relive the highs of the best rhythm game era. Obviously, you can’t get up while on the drums, but you can now walk around the stage while on vocals, shifting positions in the Jam Ring however you’d like.

Elsewhere in Fortnite, the new update has started Act 2 of Showdown in battle royale. This time, the event is focused on Jules vs Dasha, with players choosing who to represent and complete actions in matches to unlock things for the team and to try and win the Showdown.

Finally, the mode that started it all, Save The World, is now free-to-play for everybody. You won’t need to buy the extra mode to play the single-player part of the game, which later became the Fortnite battle royale behemoth.

The changes are live in-game now, as part of the update that was released in the morning of April 16.
