Now that Death Stranding 2 has been out on PlayStation 5 and PC for a while, plenty of folks have had the opportunity to experience the Hideo Kojima masterpiece – including Mike Ybarra, former Blizzard Entertainment lead and Xbox corporate vice president at Microsoft.
Ybarra reveals as much in a new online post, praising the game while sharing a screenshot of his Death Stranding 2 stats on Steam. It shows his hours spent in-game and achievements unlocked, which he has apparently 100% completed.
“91.8 hours, probably idle for 10-15 of those,” writes the ex-Blizzard boss. “Hell of an experience, and beautiful graphics and sound throughout the entire game. Well done, Hideo Kojima and team.”
It sounds like he thoroughly enjoyed it, which isn’t all that surprising – after all, we’re talking about the game that saw its PC port impressively surpass the Steam concurrent player peak of both versions of the original game combined in just 24 hours. Heck, it boasts thousands of reviews and an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating with a perfect 5/5 score on Steam, too.
What is a bit mind-boggling, however, is Ybarra’s admission in his comments.

Upon a fan asking which story is better – that of Death Stranding 2 or its 2019 predecessor – Ybarra shockingly replies, “1.” In other words, the Microsoft veteran believes the original game has a better plot… or, at least, that’s what it sounds like.
I suppose I can understand and respect that it’s a matter of perspective, but not everyone agrees. One response to Ybarra reads, “Don’t think it’s remotely fair to even say that. It’s a true sequel. The story is coupled.”
Everyone’s got their own opinion, I guess – I’d argue that, while Death Stranding 2 presents its “story” more quickly and apparently, the first game definitely harbors a surreal allure I’m not sure the second nails as well. So, I see where Ybarra’s coming from… but I also get the other side.
All in all, though, I’m more impressed by the achievement completion. That’s a whole “lot of deliveries,” as Ybarra himself admits in the thread.
We’ll just have to wait and see if Death Stranding 3 – which Kojima said he’s already written a concept for but wants someone else to make – outdoes the first two games, should it ever come to fruition. Here’s hoping it does.
