The first look at the Resident Evil movie has arrived behind closed doors.
The first footage from the horror game adaptation was screened at CinemaCon, and director Zach Cregger teased a little bit about what to expect, too.
In the footage, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Austin Abrams’s character enters an apparently empty house in the hopes of using the phone. “I’m in like a seriously fucked up situation right now,” he says, and then we see glimpses of just what he means: zombies. Uh oh…

“Over the last couple of decades, I have played a shitload of Resident Evil,” Cregger shared. “I have put an embarrassing amount of hours into these games. I love the atmosphere, love the pacing, I love the resource management, I love the dread. It’s just so naturally cinematic.”
He also teased that, “unlike my last two films, there’s not gonna be any narrative acrobatics,” and “you are gonna be locked in with one protagonist, on a foot journey from point A to point B.”
Cregger is the director of horror hits Weapons and Barbarian, so we should expect big things from his spin on Resident Evil when it arrives this September 18.
“I love the idea of being pitted against a world that is hellbent on annihilating you,” Cregger has previously said of his take on the games. “It just feels fun and I haven’t seen a movie that offers that sort of experience.” He also warned that fans might “crucify” him for not sticking to the Resident Evil lore. Exactly what that means remains to be seen.
