Persona 6 breadcrumbs continue to drop, this time with a Mature age rating courtesy of the Australian government.
The upcoming Atlus JRPG has been a very long time coming, but Persona 6’s reveal trailer didn’t divulge much information about the game at all. That’s now changing with the speed of a dripping tap, and it’s all thanks to the Australian Classification Board.
The ACB recently slapped Persona 6 with an M rating (for Mature), recommending it stay in the hands of gamers over the age of 15 due to “coarse language,” nudity, and violence supposedly depicted in the game.
While age ratings don’t provide concrete confirmation that games are nearing release, they do normally serve as good indicators since it suggests publishers are already doing certification prep. After all, classification boards can’t recommend an appropriate age rating without seeing content used in the final game and publishers don’t usually start the process for games early on in development with content that’s likely to change substantially.
Essentially, if you’re feeling optimistic, this could be a clue that Persona 6 is further along than its brief, shadowy reveal trailer implies. Look no further than Splatoon Raiders and Star Wars: Zero Company’s age ratings, which were both submitted shortly before their release dates were made official.
Still, I’d recommend pumping the breaks on any hopium-fuelled dreams that involve Persona 6 getting a full gameplay blowout and a release date anytime soon. It’s entirely possible the new age rating is based on content disclosures seen on Steam’s Persona 6 storefront description: “This Game may contain content not appropriate for all ages, or may not be appropriate for viewing at work: Some Nudity or Sexual Content, Frequent Violence or Gore, General Mature Content”.
Also keep in mind Atlus has other priorities to keep track of. Persona 4 Revival, a remake of the classic RPG, is coming out on February 18, 2027 – and Atlus has said we can look forward to more Persona 6 information after the remake releases.
For now, we know Persona 6 seems to be following in the footsteps of its high-schooling, demon-punching predecessors. “Live a Double Life in Modern-Day Japan,” the game’s Steam page reads, while hinting at another year-long in-game calendar and “contemporary Japanese cities.”
