For all the trials, tribulations, and controversies that Destiny 2 has suffered at the hands of controversial updates and strange vaulting of content, it remains one of my favorite sci-fi FPS games on the market. Few developers can nail atmosphere and gunplay as Bungie can, and while recent expansions haven’t been as good as I hoped, they’re still plenty of fun – especially the Star Wars-inspired Renegades. If you’re looking to completely catch up with the story so far (at least, the story that’s still available), the Destiny 2 Expansions Bundle from Humble Bundle is a budget-friendly way to do it – and you’ll get a discount for Bungie’s Marathon, too.

While earlier DLCs, including the emotional Forsaken expansion, have been removed to keep the file size down, there’s still a lot to love about the DLCs that haven’t been vaulted. Destiny 2’s The Witch Queen is a personal favorite, putting a focus on the creepy Hive, while also delivering a strong, cohesive narrative that may continue the Light and Darkness Saga. It also works as a one-shot, allowing you to enjoy taking on Savathûn, who is a fantastic antagonist who feels like she’s always one step ahead.

Of course, the neon-drenched Lightfall doesn’t deliver a story worthy of being a penultimate DLC for the saga, but it does give you the excellent Strand subclass, another manifestation of the darkness, and allows you to manipulate the new ‘Weave’. As a Warlock, Weave allows you to create a bunch of Threadlings that home in on enemies, dishing out massive damage, while grappling around like a sci-fi Spider-Man. I know Spider-Man 2099 exists, just let me roll with the vibes.

Then, there’s the absolutely brilliant The Final Shape, a culmination of a decade of Destiny. It’s an emotional and intense finale to the saga, with our The Final Shape review scoring it a massive 10/10. This is a masterpiece of a DLC, and an essential part of Destiny 2. As Cheri wrote: “Bungie’s best-in-class narrative team has outdone itself, the combat and gunplay sit at the pinnacle of the FPS genre, and I’ve ultimately never played anything like it.”

Lastly, you’ve also got the new parts of the ‘Fate Saga’, those being The Edge of Fate and Renegades. While the latter is a little disappointing as the start of a new storyline, Renegades is a DLC that is focused on being as chaotic and Star Wars-infused as possible, twisting familiar narrative beats into Destiny 2 lore, with a Kylo Ren-style antagonist and plenty of weapons that function like blasters. It’s absolutely bizarre, but it’s also focused on delivering thrills, and that’s fine by me.
