Crimson Desert's "largest update yet" brings countless changes, but it all pales in comparison to cats now being able to stay on your shoulder for longer
Crimson Desert’s new patch is also the game’s biggest update so far, bringing difficulty modes and house layouts into the already mammoth adventure, but the long list of improvements pales in comparison to one bug-turned-feature: Cats can now perch on your shoulder for longer.
Developer Pearl Abyss today released Crimson Desert’s 1.04.00 patch, one that marketing director Will Powers says is the game’s “largest update yet,” and it’s not hard to see why. The new patch is almost as excessively big as the game itself.
Difficulty modes are easily the patch’s headlining feature as players can now choose between Easy, Normal, and Hard modes in the game’s settings menu. Normal is the setting the game’s already tuned to, while Easy and Hard mostly either reduce or increase the damage you deal or receive. Hard mode includes new combo patterns for key bosses, too, so watch out.

Determined to further squash complaints around limited storage, Pearl Abyss also added a Collectibles Chest and a Sturdy Gatherables Chest to the game, both with 1,000 slots and, in a quality-of-life win, the latter lets you use stored materials for crafting without having to manually withdraw them to your inventory.
And in an attempt to really make Crimson Desert the everything game, its latest update puts a big emphasis on the fantasy adventure’s life sim-ish elements. Case in point: the new Select House option lets folks change their home layouts. Four new house types unlock as the Greymane Camp expansion level goes up, ranging from “Compact House” to “Spacious Pailunese House.”
Finally, if there were ever a feature that would tempt me back into Crimson Desert, it would be one that lets me cosplay as a pirate who can’t tell the difference between a parrot and a cat. Oh, look.
Due to an adorable bug, cats would sometimes sit on players’ shoulders indefinitely, but to Pearl Abyss’ surprise, “Greymanes actually liked these cats’ behavior.” So a new item, the Sigil of Bonding, now “allows cats to stay on the shoulder for a longer period of time.” Five new cat types and pet birds come with the expansive update as well.
