Both at work and among friends, I’m known as a Soulslike hater, but my actual relationship with games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring is a lot more complicated. I have treasured memories playing parts of Bloodborne’s campaign and dueling in Dark Souls 2 with my college roommates, and I tried like hell to get through Elden Ring because I’m hopelessly transfixed by its world and story, but ultimately, I always end up falling off these types of games simply because I am not very good at them. I’m an anxious, fidgety, deeply impatient person, and I’ve found those…

Nvidia GPUs for gaming are now such a small part of the company’s business that it’s changing the way it files its financial reports. Instead of having a separate section for gaming, it’s now mashing together everything that isn’t data center chips into one division. This means that gaming GPUs, GeForce Now, and any other game-related revenue are being reported alongside workstation GPUs, AI models, automotive chips, robotics, and more, as part of the “Edge Computing” section of the business. Edge Computing makes up less than 10% of Nvidia’s business, despite its best graphics card, the RTX 5090, selling for…

Every summer, indie developers from all around the world arrive in Kyoto to showcase their upcoming games at the BitSummit festival. As the show’s Western media partner, VGC is here once again here to check out BitSummit’s 14th iteration, and now that the first day is over, here’s my recap of some of the more interesting titles I played.Mercifully, this year’s event is no longer a mid-July affair, meaning the dangerously hot Kyoto temperatures – which were as high as 32 degrees (90 F) last year but felt like more than 40 (104 F) due to the extreme humidity – are…

The Analogue 3D just got its biggest update yet, as the 4K N64 now has save states. Dubbed “Memories”, the new feature was promised alongside screenshots before launch, and while we’ll need to wait a little longer to take pretty low-poly pictures, not having to do a complete Star Fox 64 run in one sitting is pretty neat.Chances are that if you have just installed version 1.2.6, you probably missed the big Analogue 3D 1.3.0 update. That’s understandable since this patch decided to arrive just days later, which makes me question the retro console maker’s release schedule. I’m not grumbling,…

I know I don’t have the best knees. My body informed me of this during a drunken dance-off in a Leeds night club when one of them popped out of place and tore a line through the back of my knee cap. It told me again a year later when I did the same thing playing frisbee. And a third time when I slipped on some grass while walking Jeremy Peel’s dog on a rainy day. Put kindly, they’re shoddy. Yet, I’m developing a whole new appreciation for their shoddiness while playing through Half-Life: Alyx, Valve’s VR spin on City…

The FF14 Make It Rain Campaign is back for 2026 very soon, and with it comes the most anticipated returning face to the MMORPG since Zero. When Final Fantasy 14 patch 7.5 landed on April 28, some players found an unannounced surprise in their inventories in the form of an incredibly cute otter backpack. Unfortunately, it wasn’t supposed to be there, and Square Enix insisted everyone who got one had to put their presents back in the box. Now, the Senor Otter Pack is finally ready to come back, and for good this time. The Final Fantasy 14 developer chalked…

Bubsy 4D has quickly become one of my favorite platforming games in recent years and, yep, there are no bobcat claws at my throat making me say that. I’ve gone from rudely maligning the overly chatty ’90s mascot to becoming a genuine fan. That time has passed in-universe too, meaning that Bubsy the Bobcat has become a down-on-his luck, schlubby uncle who has to exhaustingly pounce back into action to recover the golden fleeces from enemy robot sheep. Finally, I can see myself in a platforming hero.Developed by excellent platformer studio Fabraz, the only detractor here is that Bubsy 4D…

The latest update for Menace, the turn-based tactics game where you play as space police in a system overrun with aliens and rebels, brings good news and bad news. On the one hand, it gives us two kinds of tank, letting us finally take some heavy armour into battle, but on the other, the cost of your failure just got significantly higher. If you lose a planet to Menace’s main enemy, the allied faction on the surface is wiped out. Plus, there are three new ways to trigger a game over. So, quite a lot more bad news than good,…

Destiny 2 comes to an end on Tuesday June 9, with the launch of the Moment of Triumph update. Bungie promises that the FPS will remain live and playable for the foreseeable future, with changes planned “to ensure that Destiny 2 is a welcoming place for players to return to.” That overhaul will be its final ‘content update,’ however, and the decision once again calls into question the very nature of the live-service format, and the inherent inevitability of loss that it perpetuates. Rather than get locked into the negatives, however, I want to take a moment to embrace what…
