Tekken loses its third lead in 9 months as director Kouhei Ikeda leaves Bandai Namco after 20 years, leaving fans to worry about what's next for the iconic fighting game series
Longtime Tekken director Kouhei Ikeda has announced his departure from Bandai Namco after 20 years at the company.Tekken hasn’t exactly been at its best over the last year or so, with a disastrous Tekken 8 Season 2 launch, followed by an also disastrous Tekken 8 Season 3 launch. On top of that, the development team has seen several departures.Last September, Tekken 8 producer Yohei Shimbori left Bandai Namco Studios, then at the end of the year, longtime series producer Katsuhiro Harada – who many associate with the series more than series creator Seiichi Ishii – left Bandai Namco after 31…
Fable's delay into 2027 is the right move, but it'll make looking through the window bars at GTA 6 on consoles slightly more painful
Ah, the Fable reboot isn’t coming out in 2026 after all, then. Rumours had suggested the wind was blowing in that direction and Xbox exec Matt Booty chose to interrupt last Friday’s chill vibes to confirm that a delay to February 2027’s now been set in stone, ripping the plaster off ahead of the impending Summer Geoff Fest. While almost certainly a shrewd move on Playground Games’ part, Fable’s slip from the autumn slate still sucks if you’re, say, on the platform this November’s flashiest arrival isn’t hitting yet.
Dragon Age series producer says more games should be funded by product placement instead of live service
Bioware veteran and Dragon Age series producer Mark Darrah says some studios and publishers should consider turning to product placement instead of relying on microtransactions to fund development. In a video on his personal YouTube channel, Darrah – who was at BioWare for 23 years and was executive producer on the Dragon Age series – suggested that while video games aren’t the same medium as movies, they could still borrow their business models more frequently to fund project development.“My understanding is the live-action Smurfs movie paid for itself entirely through product placement,” Darrah claimed, “so the movie was effectively made for…
I've been hands on with Warhammer 40K Armageddon, and it's the push I need to finally go all in
Breaking open launch boxes like Warhammer 40K Armageddon is a bit like setting up a shiny next-gen console. It’s a fresh start wrapped in cardboard and plastic; you excitedly tear off the packaging as if it’s Christmas morning, breathe in that heady ‘new’ smell, and then get to work. For those first few hours, you’re living on promise and possibility and endless horizons. If that kind of experience is like Christmas, this is a good year. I was able to go hands-on with Warhammer 40K Armageddon early, and after just a few days spent building its armies and poring over the…
Tekken 8’s game director, Kohei Ikeda, has announced he’s quit Bandai Namco, five months after series producer Katsuhiro Harada also exited the company. In an announcement posted on his X page, Ikeda gave no reason for his departure, but claimed that the Tekken team would be left in good hands.“Being surrounded by passionate and incredibly talented mentors and colleagues, and dedicating ourselves wholeheartedly to game development together, remains one of the most cherished experiences of my life,” he wrote.“In particular, being entrusted with the role of Game Director for Tekken 7 and Tekken 8 gave me the opportunity to connect with…
Dell just took a huge swing at Apple and the Macbook Neo, with new Dell XPS 13 launching at $599
Well, we didn’t see this one coming. After all the talk of how Apple has completely changed the landscape of budget laptops with its MacBook Neo, Dell has come out fighting and is offering its new XPS 13 for the same $599 price, which is roughly half that of its predecessor. However, there is a catch, which is that this Dell XPS 13 price is only available to students. However, it’s not that much of a catch; the Dell XPS’s starting price is just $699 for non-students, too. What’s more, the version available at this price still includes all the…
Gaming monitors are getting ludicrous. Alienware has just announced the AW3926QW, which is a 39-inch OLED display with a massive 5K resolution and a refresh rate of 165Hz. Not only that, but it can also run at 330Hz in a reduced-resolution mode, and its RGB-stripe OLED tech pushes image quality to a new level. It might not be the best choice for every PC gamer, but the Alienware AW3926QW is likely to be one of the most desirable when it lands. Announced at the Computex tech trade show currently taking place in Taiwan, Alienware unveiled the new display alongside three…
One of the best games of the decade joins Chained Echoes and over 16 other JRPG love letters in this upcoming crossover
Infinite Alliance was already shaping up to be an unmissable crossover event for fans of JRPG-inspired games and it’s now become even more of an exciting proposition thanks to the inclusion of CrossCode, one of the best RPGs – or perhaps even one of the best games, period – of the decade. For those out of the loop, Infinite Alliance is an upcoming free turn-based game that’s bashing together heroes and villains from a bunch of JRPG love letters. Genre favorites like Chained Echoes and Kingdom of the Dump were already part of the line-up alongside more under-the-radar gems, but publisher…
The Witcher 3's Director wants to expand on its masterful side quests in his new RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker
He may no longer be part of CD Projekt Red, but The Witcher 3 Director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz is carrying its legacy forward into his new studio’s debut outing, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Tomaszkiewicz isn’t the only former CDPR dev who can now be found at Rebel Wolves, and that legacy is immediately visible in the core of its upcoming RPG. One of the most meaningful ways the team is expanding on the elements of player freedom and choice is in The Blood of Dawnwalker’s quest system, which tosses out the concept of a ‘main quest’ almost entirely in favor of…
