Xbox's co-op brawler Towerborne drops free-to-play and monetization plans for 1.0, but crossplay is bizarrely gone too
The Towerborne 1.0 update is something I’d love to shout about. Seamlessly blending side-scrolling beat-em-ups with the loot-driven progression of action RPGs, it won my heart in early access with its combo-driven combat and flashy visual design. Now, a year and a half on from its initial launch, the full release is upon us, and there’s lots of upgrades to shout about. It’s even dropped its live-service monetization plans, although the transition away from a planned free-to-play offering will be disappointing to some. What’s bugging me most, however, is the stripping back of crossplay and online matchmaking in a game…
The Bride's Christian Bale thought he read the "wrong script" because of how risky it was: "This must be a low-budget indie"
Christian Bale has asked for more “desperately original, fiery films” like The Bride! during the London premiere of the film this week, revealing his surprising first reaction to reading the script by Maggie Gyllenhaal.”I thought I had the wrong script,” the actor told Deadline on the red carpet. “I thought, what I read, I said, ‘This must be a low-budget indie, because it’s way too risky for anyone to put any serious money into, but I want to do this movie, I want to do this low-budget indie that Maggie has written.’ And then they said to me, ‘No, no,…
Netflix's $82.7 billion deal to buy Warner has been dramatically gazumped by Paramount, to the tune of $111 billion
Netflix’s $82.7 billion proposal to buy the parts of Warner Bros Discovery that include Hogwarts Legacy creators Avalanche, Lego devs TT Games, Mortal Kombat studio NetherRealm and Batman Arkham outfit Rocksteady has… fallen through. Rival moneymonster Paramount Skydance has swept in with an even larger bid, submitted 24th February. They’re offering around $111 billion – $31 per share – for the entirety of Warner Bros Discovery, including its linear cable channels. “That’s a lot of zeros!” I bawl, slamming my face into my eroded laptop keyboard as I contemplate my landlord’s proposal to raise the rent yet again, even though…
Is Marathon down? Despite a less-than-ideal first impression, Bungie has put in the hard graft to get its new extraction shooter back on track. As we sprint towards launch, Marathon has cemented itself as one of the year’s most exciting prospects. With the reignited hype, we’re anticipating a few server quibbles here and there, both during its Server Slam and when it arrives in full. Of course, network issues can occur anywhere along the chain. From the Marathon servers, to your ISP, down to an ethernet cable that your dog might have chewed without you realizing, there’s plenty of opportunity…

Don't fancy trying Marathon this weekend? Lucky you, as there's now the chance to have a go at Horizon Hunters Gathering
Is there something in the digital air this weekend? Bungie are finally letting anybody who wants a go have a go at Marathon from February 26th to March 2nd as part of the game’s server slam, and now it looks like Guerrilla Games’ recently announced live service spin-off Horizon Hunters Gathering is joining it with a playtest of its own. This playtest was already confirmed when the game was announced earlier this month, though now a hard set of dates have been set: February 27th to March 1st. However! There are several caveats to be aware of. The…
