Anthem revival efforts look to hinge on whether EA's Frostbite engine freezes attempts to wrangle its myriad quirks
A group of tinkerers working on reviving Bioware’s Anthem via private servers following its shutdown earlier this month have now offered more insight into how that project’s going so far. While a video posted last week got hopes up that a return could be relatively imminient, the group say there’s plenty of work to be done yet, with the main potential stubling block being efforts to figure out the quirks of EA’s Frostbite engine.
It depresses me that the UK Pornhub restrictions will probably boost VPN sales more than anything else going on in the world
I’ve been writing about VPNs for almost five years now. Keeping on top of all news related to them helped make me profoundly aware of the threats facing internet privacy from governments and shady individuals alike. I love to champion VPNs as the protectors of individual privacy in an increasingly invasive internet – but deep down, I know the truth. Nothing will motivate people to get a VPN more than protecting their access to porn. From February 2, Pornhub will be inaccessible to everybody in the UK apart from those who have an existing account on the site. This new…
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is a Mass Effect-shaped rocket that could finally propel Owlcat into the RPG mainstream: "We’d been feeling a growing ambition to go bigger"
Owlcat Games pushes the RPG genre forward at every turn. By bringing the uncompromising depth of old-school CRPGs to the modern era, it has found success upon success. CRPG devotees consider Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous to be one of the genre’s greatest offerings, while 2023’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader captured the scope of Games Workshop’s cutthroat universe with a then-unseen level of faithfulness and ambition. For many fans, though, Owlcat’s best is still to come. Upcoming CRPG Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy looks to build upon Rogue Trader in every way possible, while The Expanse: Osiris Reborn will see Owlcat venture…
Stardew Valley creator breaks silence to shoot down myths about Haunted Chocolatier, including that 2030 release rumour
Stardew Valley creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone has emerged from the giant Easter egg in which he makes games to “debunk a few myths and false assumptions” about Haunted Chocolatier, his forthcoming sticky-fingered life sim. The good news is that he’s been “very productive” lately, though he admits that he “shouldn’t have announced the game so early”, which suggests we’ve a ways to go yet before the first proper Haunted Chocolatier trailer or info blowout.
What are the best Arknights Endfield blueprints? There are a dizzying number of Endfield blueprints being shared all over the internet right now. From modest, compact production chains to sprawling bases that consume every available resource, it’s hard to tell what’s good and what’s wildly inefficient when you have limited space. The AIC is, of course, a major pillar of Arknights Endfield’s gameplay. It’s where you’ll generate the resources needed to progress, make new gear, and, most importantly, complete objectives and reach milestones that’ll grant Oroberyl – you know, the stuff you need to pull the best operators on our…
Silent Hill legend Akira Yamaoka doesn't think the franchise has changed as much as you do, since Konami's "philosophical approach" has always been the same
Like most great American towns, Silent Hill has changed, I think. Snow had already turned it gray by the time you’re introduced to it in the first game from 1999, but the next few decades pulled the series into real, bloody purple decay – the original Team Silent development team was defunct by 2007, and Konami made a pachislot spinoff game, for example. After decades of fan frustration with what seemed like a perfect survival horror series left to die, 2025’s excellent Silent Hill f revived the franchise by transporting it to the Japanese mountainsides, polka-dotted with red flowers and flower…
After years worth of all of that, and this, and that, and the other thing, they’ve just randomly decided now’s the time to acknowledge it. Via a Tweeter reply containing that GTA: San Andreas meme no less. I may be a weathered old sailor with cannon fuses tied into my beard and more trips up the rigging than I can count to my name, but I didn’t foresee this being how Ubisoft finally acknowledged that Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag remake.
Microsoft’s latest quarterly financial results are in, and they do not paint a pretty picture for how the company’s gaming division is doing. A massive 32% drop in Xbox revenue is joined by a 5% drop in Xbox content and services revenue, and overall, the company has seen a 9% drop in gaming revenue. This all adds up to its overarching More Personal Computing division seeing a 3% drop in revenue, despite positive news on the PC and Windows fronts. As you might expect, Microsoft isn’t struggling elsewhere, with overall revenue up 17% and a hefty 26% increase in revenue…
After 13 years, a "new version" of Final Fantasy 7 is replacing the current version on Steam, and Square Enix hasn't explained what's different
The current version of the original Final Fantasy 7 on Steam has existed since 2013, but it’s now going the way of the dodo, Square Enix has announced. “A new version” has been announced that’ll replace the current version, but details are virtually non-existent as far as what’s “new.”In a new Steam update, Square Enix fully explained how the new Final Fantasy 7 will replace the current one and what that means for people who own the game, but stopped short of explaining what exactly is different about the new version.Basically, the current version of Final Fantasy 7 will be…
Time to climb a weird mountain in Cairn, the windy backpacking odyssey from the creators of Haven and Furi
One of the nicer Industry Trends of the past few years has been the rise and rise and rise of climbing sims. It turns out climbing is a source of many emotions, from the melancholy wonder of Jusant through the savage loneliness of Lorn’s Lure to the slapstick camaraderie of Peak and the agony of various Sisyphus sims. Also Celeste. And I guess we should mention Getting Over It here? See, it’s an absolute avalanche. Cairn is on the somber side. Created by The Game Bakers, it’s about a woman with bandaged legs and a scuttling robo buddy.…
