More like space the final funtier am I right (cue canned laughter that goes on a touch too long)? Besiege, the physics building game about building all manner of medieval machinery to destroy your enemy, has taken you to all kinds of lands and with its 2024 expansion, The Splintered Sea, a few oceans too. But with its newly revealed follow-up expansion, there’s nowhere to go but up (because it’s set in space, hence my absolutely hilarious opening line). This next expansion, only sort of shown off in a brief teaser trailer, is called “The Broken Beyond,” and…
Escape From Tarkov's first crossover has arrived, and all it took was a trigger-happy rubber duck
I genuinely never thought I’d see the day where Escape From Tarkov would get a crossover with another game or IP. A hardcore shooter so focused on immersion and realism, it’d be a shock to see any other influences creep in – especially given that its fan base can be, erm, reactionary at times. However, today marks the launch of Tarkov’s first collab, and despite it involving a game all about bloodthirsty rubber ducks, it makes all the sense in the world. It’s with Escape From Duckov, the ludicrous PvE extraction shooter directly inspired by EFT. You’ll have probably seen…
"We have made back our development budget after 3 hours": Over 8 years in the making, strategy roguelike Mewgenics is an instant hit for The Binding of Isaac creator and his team
Mewgenics, the peculiar new tactical roguelike from the mind behind The Binding of Isaac, launched today alongside overwhelmingly positive reviews from players and critics, and now we officially know it’s shaping up to be a big commercial success as well.Coming from The Binding of Isaac maker Edmund McMillen and his longtime collaborator Tyler Glaiel – a team that also brought us The End is Nigh – Mewgenics is about as much of a departure for the co-creators as it gets. It’s still very much a roguelike, but here you’re tasked with building a superpowered, mutant cat army and sending it…
New Subnautica 2 video shows off a convenient and social dive elevator, while promising that multiplayer won't ruin single player
It’s another day, another Subnautica 2 dev vlog, this time one with a big focus on multiplayer. This ability to play with, heaven forbid, other people is one that developer Unknown Worlds very much understands is not for everyone, given the first game’s big focus on isolation and ruffing it yourself. So, this vlog is all about explaining why you don’t need to worry if you like to go solo. And also to show off a dive elevator. In the video, lead engineer Jon Bjarnason noted how the very first internal demos the studio held only a few…
The new Overwatch season is a fresh start for Blizzard, and its five new heroes will change the meta for the better
Overwatch has ebbed and flowed in popularity over the past decade, and with the release of Season 1, it’s clear that the future has never looked brighter for Blizzard’s hero shooter. Not only is Blizzard dropping five new characters, but it’s also planning to launch new seasons every two months, each featuring a new hero, skins, and balance changes to keep the game fresh. In hindsight, it’s fair to say that the release of Overwatch 2 was a disaster. The transition to a free-to-play live service multiplayer game arrived with many shortsighted kinks, alongside the promise of a PvE mode…
New info on PlayStation and Arc System Works’ superhero fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, has appeared online, ahead of a planned State of Play later this week.On Monday, new details about the fighter briefly appeared on Tokon’s Steam page before being removed (and archived by Resetera), including confirmation of a 20-character roster and a single-player mode.According to the page text, Marvel Tokon will feature 64-player online lobbies, and require a PlayStation account on PC.“Choose from an expanding roster of 20 iconic Marvel characters at launch, each rendered in a bold new anime-inspired art style and members of their own unique teams…
When She-Ra and the Princesses of Power ended in May 2020, Adora and Catra finally got their happy ending, riding off into the sunset together. It took five seasons full of yearning and longing and romantic subtext, but they actually made it, and in doing so, they also forged an unforgettable milestone of queer storytelling. But happy endings can be undone, it seems, because Netflix’s reboot of the original He-Man spinoff is now set to leave streaming on February 21. Despite it being dubbed a Netflix original at the time of release, She-Ra will no longer be available to watch on…
Embark would like you all to play nice in Arc Raider's temporary PvE event Shared Watch, which starts today
The single most offputting thing about a game like Arc Raiders, i.e. an extraction shooter, is that every single other person you meet in-game is Schrödinger’s asshole. They could be a friend who you share a story or some loot with, or they could mercilessly gun you down at the drop of a hat. It’s certainly not for everyone, but in the game’s latest update, a new PvE event has arrived encouraging everyone to walk hand in hand together to defeat those big bad bots. This new event is called Shared Watch, described in-world as an “annual holiday…
Upcoming Blade Runner game delisted on Steam after all members of the development team resign
Blade Runner 2033 Labyrinth has been delisted on Steam, 18 months after 24 employees resigned from developer Annapurna Interactive, including game director Chelsea Hash and the entire Blade Runner development team. While Annapurna Interactive previously committed to continuing development of the game, fans are worried for its future as there has been no official statement on its status. Annapurna Interactive promised in-development games wouldn’t be shelved after its public collapse, but Blade Runner 2033 Labyrinth appears to be the first victim. Back in 2024, 25 employees resigned from Annapurna Interactive at once in a situation that a spokesperson for the…
‘We agree that she can be even better’: Overwatch director vows to redesign Anran following player and voice actor backlash
The game director of Overwatch has responded to fan backlash over the design of one of its new characters, and has vowed to change their appearance.Last week Blizzard announced a major content update for Overwatch 2, which will see the hero shooter dropping the 2 from its name, adding an unprecedented ten new heroes, and kickstarting a “new story-driven era”.One of these new heroes, a damage character called Anran, has been the topic of much discussion among the player base, after her appearance was changed from her initial reveal.Back in August last year, when it was introducing the hero character…
