"'You have no idea what you've built'": Arc Raiders lead says a "prominent professor in neurology" encouraged him to submit the extraction shooter to science
Next time you play Arc Raiders, try ringing a bell each time you engage in PvP, or salivating whenever you get shot in the head – apparently, a distinguished neurology professor told developer Embark Studios’ CEO Patrick Söderlund his game is a big psychological deal.”I’ve read a bunch of articles saying the Arc Raiders is almost like a social experiment, and it kind of is, and I love that,” Söderlund tells IGN in a recent interview. “I genuinely love the fact that that’s what it is. I actually had a conversation at dinner three days ago with a very prominent…
Cyberpunk platformer Replaced has a demo out, and it's wonderfully atmospheric when you're not plummeting a short distance
Warren! Warren! Warren! ARRGGHHH! WHAAAA! HUHHHH! Replaced, the long-in-development dystopian platformer from Sad Cat Studios, keeps shouting my last name at me. It might because the game’s main character, a jacketed gap jumper and baddie shooter, is called Warren. It might also because I did plenty of falling and accidentally got shot by a robo-sniper in Replaced’s demo, which is now live ahead of the full thing’s release next month.
In a week where moving house has seen the vast majority of my gaming time vanish, some short, sweet, distracting hits were needed – and, boy, has Cloverpit delivered. I know I’m a little late to the party here – the roguelike gambling simulator is a good four months old at this point – but it’s been the perfect game for me recently. The clanking of coins, the aural bombardment of multipliers and charm effects chaining together – and the big payouts – are a perfect cocktail for endorphins. It also, bizarrely, triggered some genuine emotion, which is impressive for…

Resident Evil meets BioShock in a survival horror FPS that would be cringe if it wasn't so damn metal
Crisol: Theatre of Idols makes me bleed for every bullet. I wince each time Gabriel – devout cultist, soldier of the Sun God, etc. – squeezes the spiked grip of his pistol, blood pouring out from his palm and filling the chamber with a red-orange fluid that splutters like lava. If that’s not hardcore enough for you, the dude literally exsanguinates corpses to replenish his own vitality – and once drained, they simply melt away.Usually, it’s hard for even the best survival horror games to gross me out. But as Gabriel’s melodramatic cries ring out in this nightmarish rendition of…
At least 1,200 Ubisoft developers have gone on strike across Paris and Milan in response to the company’s recent massive cutbacks and change of policy towards remote-working. That’s the figure given for yesterday’s bout of strike action by Marc Rutschlé, Ubisoft Paris staffer and a representative of the union Solidaires Informatique, in a statement to the socialist agitators of GamesIndustry.biz. The primary inspiration for this week’s strike is Ubisoft’s cancellation or closure of several games and studios, with total job losses still to be confirmed but likely to be in the hundreds. The strikers are also pissed off about delayed…
New Starship Troopers FPS transforms Helldivers 2 into a '90s boomer shooter, and you can play a demo right now
Helldivers 2 was a fantastic surprise that elevated the bug-blasting genre to new heights. I loved Arrowhead’s top-down original, but its escalation into a full-scale 3D shooter absolutely blew me away, keeping everything that made the first special. With that said, what I’ve seen of Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War makes a similarly strong first impression. Its more stylized, retro boomer-shooter aesthetics feel like I’ve been teleported to a world where Helldivers 2 came out in the late ’90s, but at a level of scale and spectacle that would have been impossible at the time. Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War…

Reanimal review – the dollhouse horror of Little Nightmares gives way to a grimier tale of war and slaughter
Reanimal reviewTarsier break away from Little Nightmares with an impressively bestial horror fantasy that veers into a No Man’s Land of wartime imagery. Developer: Tarsier Publisher: THQ Nordic Release: February 13th, 2025 On: Windows From: Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store Price: £35/$40/€40 Reviewed on: Intel Core-i7 12700F, 16GB RAM, Nvidia RTX 3060, Windows 11 In an industry pestered by calls to “think of the children”, Tarsier’s games are useful reminders that children can be utterly depraved in ways no coddling adult would ever dream. Later in Reanimal, the developer’s latest, strictly ‘co-optional’ horror game, two kids rip an eyeball…
