Ahead of the new Steam Controller release on May 4th, and shortly after I finished reviewing it (it’s good!), I sat down with Valve engineer Steve Cardinali and designer Lawrence Yang to discuss the Controller, the industry-upending RAM shortage it’s launching into, and delays to the Steam Machine that said disruption has caused. While no new Steam Machine pricing or release date specifics slipped from any errant lips, both Cardinali and Yang spelled out what previous Steam statements have always inferred: that even a company of Valve’s standing (and wealth) can’t get around the lack of vital components, nor the…

Membrane face buttons, a rigid D-pad, a limited 250Hz polling rate, and no trigger stops are all appearing to be common gripes from the first round of Steam Controller reviews.Overall, Valve’s new PC controller is being received really well by critics, especially for its convenience and trackpad quality of life features. But for a price of $99 / £85, it may leave some players looking for a bit more for their money, especially if they’re looking for something they can play competitive games with. Having sifted through the first wave of Steam Controller reviews, a common theme seems to be…

Take a deep breath. Listen to some birds chirping. Watch some plants sway in the gentle breeze. Ahhhhhh. Life could be a dream. At least, it could be if the new forest biomes added by Helldivers 2’s latest patch were in a totally different game. Instead, they’re in a frantic shooter about murderdeathing space monstrosities, now with sturdier mech suits and rebalanced melee weapons at your side.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodhunt is a slightly obscure World of Darkness battle royale game. You probably haven’t heard of it, and that’s okay. Gameplay was relatively simple: choose your clan (or class), drop into the rain-soaked streets of a nighttime Prague, gear up, then be the last team standing. There’s nothing revolutionary here – the setting does a lot of the heavy lifting – but it’s a fun multiplayer loop with gorgeous visuals and interesting virtual translations of several of the TTRPG’s core disciplines (or skills). Given you likely haven’t heard of it, it’s perhaps no surprise that Bloodhunt…

The Arc Raiders Shoring Up Defenses quest, added as part of the Riven Tides update, has players explore the seafront map and provide various support. Specifically, you need to board up hotel windows, repair a raider structure on top of the crane in the Stacking Yard, and rack up some kills on Fireflies and Wasps to boot. While the last of these is relatively straightforward, finding the location of the hotel windows and Raider structure isn’t easy in a map this size. Fortunately I’ve done it myself, and I’ll show you where to go and what to do in this…

In case you missed it, Valve confirmed the Steam Controller’s price and release date yesterday. Naturally, as part of that reveal they’ve faced a bunch of questions about the other hardware they’ve got in the works, including the Steam Machine and the more distant next Steam Deck. As far as the latter’s concerned, they still aren’t saying much, but have at least confirmed they’ve busy working on both it and making sure current Decks don’t keep going out of stock amid the ongoing RAM crisis.
