Zenimax Online founder and Elder Scrolls Online director Matt Firor left the studio in 2025, confirming months later that his departure was a direct result of Microsoft’s cancelling his dream MMO, Project Blackbird. You might think that colors his feelings about ESO, but no – it’s apparently still one of his favorite games, and he’s continuing to play it to this day, even as his guildmates have no idea who he is.”I did take two or three months off just to get away mentally, but I started playing again,” Firor says in a new interview with MinnMax. He says he’s…

Last year, Microsoft cancelled an MMO that was in the works at ZeniMax Online Studios, developers of The Elder Scrolls Online, as part of wider layoffs. In a new dev blog, level designer Luka Grepl-Malmgren takes us on a whistlestop tour of what we can expect when the “tribute to the veteran Battlefield community” leaves the Battlefield Labs, and hits live in a couple of weeks’ time. The reborn Golmud Railway takes one of BF4’s big missed…

One led to a movie where Jeff Goldblum gets beat up by a tyrannosaurus while the other inspired centuries of strange little girls like me hosting tea parties for their eyeless teddy bears – but Jurassic Park and Alice in Wonderland have an important connection through the former’s creator, Michael Crichton. Without him, ex-Doom developer American McGee may have never made the Alice action game in 2000 that, 26 years later, still represents one of publisher EA’s most beloved series.”I can’t say that, looking back on my childhood, that I remember or recall being the world’s biggest Alice in Wonderland…

If your idea of great FPS level aesthetics is a hot mess of Black Mesa, Penumbra and Get Even – or you’re just driven wild by the sight of porcelain tiles peeling flirtatiously away from mortar – you might get on with Industria 2, which launches today. I’ve not played the first one, but I admired its parallel dimension Cold War-era Berlin. The second game introduces a new parallel dimension, summarised by developers Bleakmill as a tug-of-war between “industrial decay”, “boreal nature” and “otherworldly sprawling machine structures”. Phwoar!

When is the next PUBG update? There are very few battle royale games, or any games for that matter, that have a history like PUBG. The first BR that truly broke out, it almost single-handedly created an entirely new genre, and it’s hard to think about the gaming landscape without the shooter-with-the-ever-closing-circle now. If you haven’t played PUBG for a while, logging on might give you a bit of a fright. Menus look completely different, events are constant, but thankfully, the actual game remains more or less the same. There are new weapons and PUBG maps, of course, but it’s…

After Monument Valley 3 was unceremoniously pulled from Netflix last year, series developers Ustwo Games are now focusing on PC first and foremost. The first two entries in the series did also hit our game box shores, but only after their initial mobile releases. This shift’s clearly forced Ustwo CEO and chair of the UK games industry trade body Ukie Maria Sayans to look long and hard at some numbers. Cue her concluding that the studio might have been “a little bit too romantic” about taking on full-time staff, rather than relying more heavily on contractors.
