"The biggest time save in nearly a decade of Pokemon speedrunning" has been discovered thanks to the new FireRed and LeafGreen Switch ports, and all it takes is the press of a button
The recent Switch releases of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen have drawn a massive increase in attention to the games that started it all, and a popular speedrunner says the influx of new players has yielded an unexpected benefit: “the biggest time save in nearly a decade of Pokemon speedrunning.”Pokemon FireRed streamer and current Elite 4 Round 2 speedrunning record holder Gunnermaniac explains the surprisingly simple trick in a new YouTube video, attributing the find to the Red and Green remakes’ newfound popularity. “Without the new Switch release, this discovery probably never would’ve been found,” he says. The 2.68-second time save was…
New Slay The Spire 2 patch will "make infinites harder to achieve" by letting the Doormaker eat your cards, amongst other surprises
Slay The Spire 2’s first actual proper major update is upon us, an avalanche of balancing tweaks and fixes for the roguelite deckbuilder that has approximately two goals: making some of those insectile cards less appalling, care of the previously announced Phobia Mode, and dialling back the prevalence of infinites – that is, card combos with effects that allow you to carry on playing them forever in a single turn.
Steam Machine hardware support appears in latest SteamOS build, along with loads of Steam deck tweaks
Valve has just released SteamOS 3.8.0 Preview: Second Clutch, the latest preview version of the operating system used on its Steam Decks and which will be running on the upcoming Steam Machine. Along with a host of new features and bug fixes for existing hardware, the new release also includes “Initial support for upcoming Steam Machine hardware.” We of course already know the Steam Machine specs, so the hardware reveal isn’t a revelation, but it’s yet another sign of how Valve remains committed to releasing its highly anticipated desktop gaming companion cube this year. The new SteamOS build dropped last…

Arc Raiders devs tortured each other during playtests, at one point juicing Arc into unstoppable Elden Ring bosses: "All of a sudden you're playing a Souls game"
It sounds like Arc Raiders developers should have been more worried about each other than monstrous Arc in the PvPvE game’s playtesting phase, according to Embark Studios production director Caio Braga. He explained during his Game Developers Conference 2026 panel When Your AAA Game Isn’t Fun: The ARC Raiders Story of Starting Over with Intent, attended by GamesRadar+. It seems that playtesting Arc Raiders developers couldn’t stand when one production faction’s idea outshone another, so they solemnly initiated “the playtest battles.””We had this autonomy that everyone in the team could do what they believe the game was – and each one…
"A balancing paradigm I often look at is Starcraft": Total War: Medieval 3 won't lean too hard on rock-paper-scissors combat, says creative director
Creative Assembly’s Total War games offer up a wide spread of factions, from rampaging Gauls to furtive and disgusting Wood Elves, but they’re all a little beholden to the ancient game of rock-paper-scissors: spears beat cavalry, cavalry beat swords, swords beat spears. I think Creative Assembly generally do an impressive job of softening that triangular countering logic by means of terrain considerations, flanking, morale and other supporting mechanics. Cavalry won’t necessarily beat swords if the cavalry are all tuckered out and spooked. And then you have wildcards, like heroes and war machines, who can mess with the logic more dramatically:…
How do you play The Silent in Slay the Spire 2? Originally from the Foglands, a region haunted by tormented souls, The Silent hunted down the cursed entity plaguing the land and now wears its skull as a trophy. After ascending the Spire and defeating The Heart, she brought a piece of it to her sisters, but her trophy ended up poisoning her. The Silent heads back to the Spire upon its reopening, searching for a cure. The Silent brings her assassination talents back to the card game, and like the rest of the returning Slay the Spire 2 characters,…

Final Fantasy 14 boss man Yoshi-P says younger players "haven't really had the chance to connect" with the JRPG series as "the release intervals for new titles have gotten longer"
Final Fantasy 14 director and longtime Square Enix employee Naoki “Yoshi-P” Yoshida has admitted the JRPG series’ longer release interval is making it hard for younger players to connect with the series.Square Enix has a lot on its hands with the Final Fantasy series alone, with the third and final entry in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy still in development and Final Fantasy 17 presumably in the very early, conceptual stages. That said, the most recent mainline installment, Final Fantasy 16, is already almost three years old without a follow-up in sight. Compare that to the two-year interval between…
Crimson Desert is "like riding a bike", says Pearl Abyss PR boss, possibly in the sense that bikes also don't run on Intel Arc GPUs
Crimson Desert’s controls aren’t a pain in the bum. You just need to get used to them. You also need to get used to not being able to run the game if you’ve got an Intel Arc graphics card. You instead need to get used to asking for a refund on this game you can’t run. These are all things Pearl Abyss have said about their huge MMO-ish RPG today, March 20th.
