Watch On
Fresh from CinemaCon, Disney and Lucasfilm have released a brand new The Mandalorian and Grogu trailer. But if you were hoping this ‘final’ look at the upcoming Star Wars movie would give even the smallest hint about the film’s plot, then we’ve got bad news…
In the trailer, which you can watch above, Din Djarin and his force-sensitive ward, Grogu, are now in the employ of Sigourney Weaver’s Colonel Ward. “I only take out Imperial War Criminals… I’ll take out every bad guy in your deck of cards,” Mando says. Ward’s response: “This isn’t about revenge, it’s about preventing another war.”
And… that’s about it as far as concrete plot details go. Instead, we get fresh glimpses at some of the film’s admittedly very pretty visuals, including a very fun-looking setpiece on a Hoth-like snow planet, a chase sequence where Grogu appears to be piloting his hover pram at breakneck speeds, and some ominous glimpses of Embo – the Clone Wars-era bounty hunter who makes his live-action debut here.

In classic Star Wars fashion, it’s set to be an emotional (surrogate) father-son story, with the trailer seemingly putting poor Grogu in the crosshairs of the Hutts. Monsters, indeed. Rebels fans will almost certainly get a kick out of our best look yet at live-action Zeb Orrelios, who also gets a line or two here, while the rest of us can enjoy the sight of Weaver in a Rebel Flight Suit.
As well as a new trailer, the first 15 minutes of the film were shown exclusively for audiences at CinemaCon, revealing that The Mandalorian and Grogu will be the first Star Wars film with opening credits. Favreau, meanwhile, took to the stage to announce that the film will feature around 49 minutes of full-frame IMAX footage.
Not long to wait now, till the movie actually hits screens, at least, and we can finally learn what Favreau and co. are keeping up their sleeves.
The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives on May 22. For everything else the galaxy far, far away has in store, check out our guide to all the upcoming Star Wars movies and shows.
