The Heroes Olden Era Shard of Serenity is a slippery little artefact. Once you’ve finally reached the area in which it can be found, which in itself is a challenge, it then decides it doesn’t want you to pick it up after all. So, what do you do?
As part of the second campaign mission in Heroes of Might and Magic Olden Era, you’ll come across an interesting fellow called Klastor, and he stands between you and completing your main task. To get rid, you’ll need to locate the Shard of Serenity, and if you’re struggling, I’m here to help.
Where is the Shard of Serenity in Olden Era?
The Heroes Olden Era Shard of Serenity is located to the south of the map, in the center, and is marked by an exclamation mark once the fog of war around it has been cleared.
Reaching it is harder than it looks, though, and you’ll need a decent army behind you to get there. In the image above, the location of a large purple portal has been marked in the middle-north of the map. This is just north of the patch of land where you’ll find the Olden Era Fine Wand, too. You must go to this portal, defeat a difficult Primal Remnant army to access it, then head through to reach the area in which the Shard of Serenity lies.

How to get the Olden Era Shard of Serenity
When you reach the Shard of Serenity, it seems someone is playing dirty tricks on you, as you cannot interact with it. Instead, Gunnar will say ‘Hmm… I cannot approach it’, and you’ll be advised that a presence prevents you from picking up the item. This presence gets stronger the closer you are to the ring, and weaker when you walk away.
The good news is, once you’ve interacted with the ring once, you can return to the Klastor, the Gravedigger holding the Heroes Olden Era Scout hostage, and follow the dialogue option to avoid the ring altogether. Klastor will resurrect the scout, and you can finish your mission and be on your way.
Alternatively, there is a way to pick up the Shard of Serenity. Taking a cue from the fact that moving towards the artefact triggers the strange power and that it asks for peace and stillness, simply stay put and end the current day. The next morning, before moving anywhere, you’ll be able to interact with the Shard.
Unfortunately, when returning to Klastor with the ring in your inventory, you’ll only be given the option to turn it over to him. You’ll engage in the same dialogue as if you’d never brought the ring back and the current mission will end, meaning there is no way to actually obtain the ring and keep it for yourself. I’ve not yet seen if there is any consequence to handing the ring over or not, I’d love to be able to get it from Klastor later, but I’ll update this guide as and when I find out.
