Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima is "not running out of ideas anytime soon," Higgs actor says, but wouldn't blame him if he wanted to leave the series behind
Hideo Kojima still has plenty of creative fuel left in the tank, according to Death Stranding and The Last of Us actor Troy Baker.
Kojima’s already put out hit after hit for decades, delivering wild spectacles and outlandish stories at every turn between the war-riddled Metal Gear Solid series, the nightmarish corridors of PT, and his two most recent Death Stranding games. But with the upcoming Hideo Kojima games – horror experiment OD and stealth-action game Physint – Baker told GamesRadar+ that the famed director’s “not running out of ideas anytime soon” in an interview ahead of the 2026 BAFTA Game Awards.
“I’ve learned to trust Hideo, and he’s not running out of ideas anytime soon,” Baker says after portraying flamboyant antagonist Higgs in both Death Stranding and its sequel. “I think that there’s a lot that he did to set up this world and these characters that we could extrapolate from. But I also understand him as a creator going, ‘I don’t want to spend the next 20, 30, years of my life in one world.’ We’ve already seen he’s got so many other ideas and things that are already in development.”

“So, I guess, for me, I always try to approach this as an audience member, and what is it that I would want to appreciate from [creators], and if I get the opportunity to double down and be a part of it, then that’s gravy,” Baker adds. “That’s a bonus. But at the end of the day, I think I just, for these creators and these developers that I’ve worked with, I think, at the end of the day, I’m more excited to see what they come up with next, and one way or another, be a part of it.”
Decades into his already storied career, Kojima’s clearly not hurting for new ideas. His Death Stranding games are almost allergic to the open-world trends that have followed the genre for the better part of two console generations, Physint is said to straddle the line between film and video games, and OD, well, I don’t think anyone totally knows what’s going on in OD.
Despite starring in The Last of Us, Death Stranding, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and many more, Troy Baker feels like he “just got started” and “my best work is ahead of me”
