Xbox has announced another showcase this week, with the world premiere of the next game in the Metro series: Metro 2039.
Over the weekend, a series of leaks emerged for a new Metro game, including cutscene and gameplay clips, with the videos titled Metro 2039. Later in the weekend, Nate The Hate – who is best known for their Nintendo leaks – said on Twitter that there will be an Xbox showcase on April 16, 2026, and that it will be where the new Metro game will be revealed.

The post keeps its cards to its chest as to what Metro 2039 will actually be like in terms of story or any gameplay details – such as if it’s following up on Metro Exodus’ open-world stages or going back to a linear style – but it’s confirmed to be a mainline entry in the series.
The game was actually first announced as an unnamed sequel to Exodus back in 2020, so presumably it’s been in development for the past six years, with Dmitry Glukhovsky – author of the books and collaborator on the games – reiterating it was still coming back in 2022. He shared the announcement of the game on his instagram account, presumably confirming he’s still involved in the project.
Regardless, it’s been seven years since Exodus came out, and given Fallout is more popular than ever, the hunger for post-apocalyptic shooters is definitely high, and an improved version of Exodus could be a real winner.
Fallout: New Vegas praise felt “a little unfair” to one Bethesda veteran at first, but Obsidian “did a great job” of channeling the series’ spirit: “In some ways better than we did”
