I’ve been pretty pessimistic about the possibility of actual savings on consoles in the lead up to Prime Day PS5 deals this month, but Best Buy has proven me wrong. It’s not a box-fresh device but a collection of open-box disc editions has just surfaced on the retailer’s page, and prices start from just $369.99. That’s for a ‘Fair’ rated device – I’d opt for the $386.99 ‘Good’ rating for the sake of $20.
At the time of writing, these PS5 deals are store limited – you’ll need to choose a pickup location that has stock to take advantage of the low prices. However, it’s well worth investigating. The PS5 Disc Edition jumped up to a $649.99 MSRP earlier this year, and Sony’s own refurbished prices sit at $549.
The PS5 price has increased so much that I’d only recommend grabbing a console if it’s been refurbished or selling for a vastly reduced open box price. This stock has been Geek Squad Verified, which means it works like new and may have minor scratches or dents. The listing also notes that the console may be missing “non-essential parts, accessories, or packaging.” More specifically, it’s stated that this console doesn’t come with a vertical stand – you can grab the official one from Amazon for $29, but third party offerings start at $13.99.
We’re not just $263 behind the full MSRP of a new console here, Best Buy is undercutting Sony’s own refurbished stock by $163. Of course, there’s a distinction to be made here. While the consoles you’ll find at PS Direct is explicitly stated to have been refurbished, and comes with a one year warranty, Best Buy’s stock has simply been tested. You’re paying less for less security – if possible, go see the console in person at your local Best Buy store.
