The Super Mario Galaxy Switch game collection just hit a record low at the best possible time

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has finally blasted onto the big screen. While it’s not getting the same stellar reception as the first one, it’s safe to say the influx of marketing images has made me want to re-experience the iconic Wii games it’s based on.

Nintendo must’ve known that myself and many others would feel this way, as it launched Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on one Switch cart late last year. Not everyone was impressed by its price, which is why I’m glad I spotted today’s savings, which appear to have arrived at the best possible time.

The Super Mario Galaxy Switch collection is now down to a more reasonable $54.99 at Woot, instead of its original $69.99 MSRP. If the movie hype has got you itching to revisit the Cosmic Observatory, you can pick up this deal, say hello to Princess Rosalina and Yoshi, and save $15 at the same time.

Should you buy Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Switch?

If you still have a Wii kicking around, you could grab both games and spend less than this $54.99 deal. I wouldn’t judge you for it either. Not only would that be far cheaper, but much like our retro expert Phil Hayton, I’m very much a fan of encouraging people to plug in an older console to re-experience games the way they were intended.

However, for pure ease of use, having these two games in one cart is a treat. You don’t have to faff around trying to hunt down your old Wii cables. All it takes to return to saving the galaxy is popping the cartridge in your Switch or your new Switch 2, and away you go. This version also includes support for the brand new Super Mario Galaxy amiibo figures, which can unlock an extra Life or 1-Up mushroom to use in-game. May I recommend you use these for the Space Junk Galaxy? As there’s some especially annoying stages in there.

Having these games available on the Switch doesn’t just make them more accessible, but they look stunning on the new Switch 2, too. There’s a free update you can take advantage of from the get-go, which introduces upgraded and crisp visuals. I sped through a Galaxy replay when this collection originally launched and was impressed with just how vivid and clean the game looked on the handheld’s 7.9-inch display.

If today’s $54.99 Woot deal doesn’t suit your budget, you can buy the games separately on the Switch and Switch 2 eShop instead. This won’t get you that lovely physical Switch box, but the $34.99 MSRP for the first game may be easier to invest in, especially if you’re recovering from the costs of grabbing that Super Mario Galaxy Movie Yoshi popcorn bucket this week.
