Well, here’s an unexpected yet intriguing crossover. One of the central writers on Destiny 2’s The Final Shape expansion has been enlisted by CD Projekt Red for the upcoming, as-yet-untitled The Witcher multiplayer game.
Kwan Perng revealed his new employer himself on LinkedIn, but he makes it clear details are very hush-hush right now. “I’ve joined CD Projekt Red as the lead writer on Project Sirius,” he says. “It will be some time before I can talk about the project, but in the meantime I’ve been immersing myself in the dark and eclectic universe of The Witcher. It’s humbling to get the opportunity to tell stories in this world and in the company of such talented developers.”

Though the multiplayer aspects are the central attraction, an early outline states single-player is still part of the structure. But again, how much or how little of that remains true is unknown.
Besides contributing to The Final Shape, as well as Warmind and The Black Armory during a previous tenure at Bungie, Perng spent some time as narrative lead on Guild Wars 2, working on the End of Dragons expansion. He clearly knows his way around storytelling for blockbuster MMOs, and it’ll be intriguing to see what he brings to The Continent.
Project Sirius is one of several irons CD Projekt has in the fire surrounding Geralt of Rivia. There’s a remake of the first The Witcher on the way, and The Witcher 4 is happening, though the current status of both is unknown. The first game turns 20 next year, and it seems like there could be plenty going on to mark the occasion.
