Seeing developers leave a job they love always hurts, and yet I didn’t expect the latest Lost Ark roadmap video to hit me quite this hard. Recent restructuring at Amazon Games saw two of the faces of the MMORPG, community manager Roxanne Sabo and producer Henry Stelter, both depart the company. That left just one member of its regular front-of-camera crew behind, franchise lead Matt Huston, to deliver what he says will be the last video roadmap as the team switches to text articles for the foreseeable future.

The three-person team had a great dynamic, and I always looked forward to seeing what was coming to Lost Ark because you could tell how enthusiastic they all were. In the new update, Huston assures the community that he’s “genuinely excited about everything we have planned,” but his eyes are those of a man who is exhausted. He speaks frankly: “While I love being here doing videos and speaking directly to you guys about Lost Ark, without my other two co-hosts, it just makes the most sense to shift the information strategy to other, more reasonable means.”

He then pauses to say, “Before we move on to the rest of the roadmap, can you guys just give a quick shoutout in the comments to Roxx and Henry, as well as all the other team members who are still at work pushing content for the game? They’ve been incredible, and I know they’d love to hear from you.”

Nearly all the comments, naturally, are messages of thanks to the departed pair, and of support for Huston. “Matt is literally putting all of western Lost Ark on his back,” one writes. Another adds, “Man, this poor guy ended up alone and he looks annoyed by what happened.” One simply comments, “Matt looks exhausted bro.” There certainly seems to be no ill will towards the developers who are just putting the hours in to make their game as good as possible, and that’s pleasing to see.

As for the roadmap itself, there’s at least still a fairly bulky amount planned for Lost Ark in the months to come. April includes the first Shadow Raid against Witch of Pain Circa, “a challenging, four-player encounter available in three difficulty tiers.” These new Shadow Raids use three unique mechanics. The first is the ‘brawl’ system, which replaces traditional staggers with a dedicated three-stage phase that requires you to fulfill specific conditions to advance.

The second part is resurrections: the standard individual limits are replaced with a shared resurrection pool that gets replenished at specific times. You’ll still wipe if all party members go down at once, even if you have resurrections remaining. The third part is the inclusion of Shadow Skills, which “let you harness the power of the primordial beings” for yourself, both in the raids and in other content across Arkesia.

Lost Ark - Witch of Pain Circa, the first Shadow Raid.

For a solo challenge, Chaos Rifts are single-player tests of strength where you’re put up against “massive numbers of chaotic beings within a strict time limit.” Then there’s House Hourglass, “another new challenging piece of content that can be entered either solo or with four players.” You only get one entry per character per week, and will face boss monsters in a single stage on a preset timer. You’ll autorevive after a certain time if you die, but need to finish the fight before the clock runs out.

Guardian Raids are expanding with a rotating roster of familiar faces, alongside new foe Lumen Caligo. There’s new tier-four upper ancient gear called “Destined Tremor gear,” which then feeds into further honing and evolutionary stages at the top end. To help you keep all of these additions in order, the team has added a new “content guide” menu that will appear from item level 1710. This shows you the optimized core and endgame content for your character’s current item level to make it clearer what you should focus on next.

Snowflake Argos returns in May, along with its associated event shop. June will introduce a brand-new region, the Catarum Archipelago. Expect new quests, new NPCs, and so on. You’ll need to be item level 1700 to head there, but a combined powerpass and express event will help you to get there if you’re returning specifically to check out the new zone.

Rounding out the roadmap is the Horizon Cathedral Abyssal Raid, set for June. This new encounter will further the endgame progression once more, and while we’ll have to wait until closer to the time to find out the full details, Huston promises “various Ark Grid boosting items, including Ancient Core selection chests.” Finally, there will be a selection of “exclusive cosmetics designed specifically for our western audience” that will also land in June.

Things are still looking active, at least for now, but I can’t help but feel like this video marks the end of an era. “It’s been a pleasure doing these roadmaps for you and I hope that you’ve enjoyed them just as much as we’ve enjoyed making them,” Huston concludes. “I’ll see you guys in Arkesia.” He signs off with, “Stay gigachad, spam o7,” representing the wave of salutes to his now-absent companions.
