Following Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 developer Warhorse Studios’ confirmation of all the open-world Lord of the Rings RPG rumors and announcement of a new Kingdom Come project, the team hopes to climb its way to the tippy-top of the genre.
The future looks bright for Warhorse Studios, with its new project set in Middle-earth and its Kingdom Come: Deliverance threequel – not to mention the movie or TV series that might be underway in the background – and boy, do the developers know it.
During a recent livestream on YouTube, communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling reveals a little more about the team’s mysterious title set in Tolkien’s fantastical world.
He notes that it’s a “passion project” of sorts, headed by a “mind-blowing team” that’s more than prepared to dive straight into “what this universe has to offer” – and, as a huge Lord of the Rings stan myself, I’d say it has a lot to offer.
Stolz-Zwilling also assures fans that the new game from Warhorse Studios will be “deeply immersive,” and we can “absolutely trust” that the devs will create a “living world” out of Middle-earth.

“There will be interesting characters, memorable places, and, of course, a strong narrative focus.” This lines up well with what Warhorse Studios previously stated – that it’s an “immersive RPG rich with details” (as one might expect) and an open-world game.
This all sounds pretty typical of the studio, and it appears to apply to the next Kingdom Come: Deliverance title, too. The devs are tackling an RPG mountain, really.
And they don’t plan on stopping. As Stolz-Zwilling concludes, they want to “become the new kings of RPGs… We have our very own formula you guys love.” Well, he’s certainly not wrong about that – and I, for one, can’t wait to see what the future holds for them or for us as fans.
Amid all of the cancellations, we Tolkien stans deserve a good game, and it sounds like Warhorse Studios is more than ready to deliver just that.
Here’s hoping both the Lord of the Rings project and the new Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 game impress us, and perhaps help cement the devs as the RPG rulers they strive to be. All I know is, I’m always happy to see the genre thrive.
