How do you get skill points in Crimson Desert? Skill points are just one of the things that Crimson Desert does a little differently; it isn’t like a traditional RPG, where levels get you extra points. It’s more involved and really depends on how much work you want to put in, which isn’t a bad thing for those who love to explore and those who have a penchant for puzzles.
If you want to take on tough challenges like the Reed Devil boss, you’ll need to have more than a few skill points available. Unlocking abilities and increasing your health and stamina are the best ways of ensuring you can take on all challengers in Crimson Desert. Here’s how to get extra skill points.

How to get extra skill points in Crimson Desert
Skill points are called Abyss Artifacts in Crimson Desert and are akin to a currency. These Abyss Artifacts will sit in your inventory until they are used in the Skills tab of the main menu – you can sell them for a decent sum of money, but we think that would be a huge mistake, even if you’re a little hard up for cash.
Here are two ways to get extra skill points:
- Completing Sealed Abyss Artifact Challenges
- Completing environmental puzzles
Abyss Challenges are added to your journal whenever you pick up a Sealed Abyss Artifact. These are essentially skill points in waiting – they can only be claimed once you complete the specific challenge associated with the cube. These challenges can be anything from sliding a set distance to defeating a set number of enemies without taking damage.
You can find Seal Abyss Artifacts while exploring, but if you want a more dependable method, you can shine your torch while out in the open – if there are any artifacts around, they will glint, showing you their location.

Another method, and the one that netted us a ton of skill points, is seeking out and solving environmental puzzles like the Dragon’s Stone puzzle. These can be head-scratchers, but once they’re done, they award you a skill point and a fast travel point for your trouble. The Skybridge network is also a great resource for skill points, as each island is an individual puzzle.
As with a lot of RPGs, if you’re finding it difficult to progress, it is likely worth the time to explore a little and build up your power. A couple of extra points on your health and some extra moves to pull out in a fight can make all the difference. Better gear obviously helps, too – we have a how to steal guide here if you don’t want to earn coin a legitimate way.
