Have mercy on our hard drives: Final Fantasy 7 Revelation also includes every region from the already massive FF7 Rebirth

Nobody—not even Vincent voice actor Matt Mercer—mentioned just how massive Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s open world will be while on stage during the Summer Game Fest stream. According to a new interview with director Naoki Hamaguchi we have an idea of how huge it’s going to be.

Not only will Final Fantasy 7 Revelation have loads of new areas we’ve never been to before, it will also have the entirety of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s open world in there too.

“One thing worth noting is that Final Fantasy 7 Revelation includes all of the continents from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth,” Hamaguchi told Automaton West when asked about the size of the open world.

Because of that, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s open world will be stuffed with things to do—even in areas you might’ve seen before. That also suggests the game might be huge when it comes to installing it on your PS5. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was a whopping 145 GB. Are we about to play a game double the size?

At that point, Square Enix might as well throw a hard drive into the box and sell it as a bundle. I fear for the Nintendo Switch 2 players out there who already spent most of their money on Mario Kart World: They might be stuck saving up for a beefy microSD card before they can jump in.

Let’s all pray that storage prices go down before spring 2027 when Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is supposed to come out. And that’s to say nothing of the amount of time you’ll need to play mini-games and battle monsters as you chase down Sephiroth. No wonder we have to wait another entire year before we can get our hands on it. Square Enix is about to break the record for the most Final Fantasy in one game.

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation battle system has been “perfected”, Square Enix claims, as it closes out its RPG trilogy
