It’s been a wild month for us Final Fantasy 14 stans, with the massive Fan Fest 2026 reveal of expansion Evercold and all of the changes coming with it – including two new jobs. Fast forward to today, and after enough sluething, plenty of fans reckon they’ve just about figured out what direction the new jobs are going in.
Every Fan Fest, it seems, director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida dons a new shirt that teases the jobs Square Enix has in store for its next expansion. The recent event in Anaheim, California, offers no exception, as Yoshi-P drew attention to his top as usual.
After confirming that the two jobs coming with Evercold would be completely new to Final Fantasy 14 – “originals, as opposed to legacy Final Fantasy jobs” – he set the community ablaze with theories. The two new jobs – one tank and one DPS – could be anything, after all.
So, what exactly was on the director’s shirt? None other than Rhitahtyn sas Arvina, an antagonist introduced with ye olde A Realm Reborn. The words above him were more curious, though, reading, “Guess who’s back?” Presumably, the shirt hints at whatever tank class is underway, and fans have many thoughts.
Over on Reddit, the conversation has been ongoing for weeks.
One fan asks, “The obvious line of thinking is that this new tank will be a gunshield user of some kind, right?” They then go on to theorize it’ll actually be the return of 1.0 classes: the Sentinel and the Musketeer. To them, “original” isn’t a word we are supposed to take literally.
Comments see folks agreeing with the Sentinel presumption, with one pointing toward the Evercold trailer seemingly utilizing the word “sentinel” as another reason.
That’s just one theory, however. A separate thread dives even deeper into Yoshi-P’s tee, even tapping into the Norse themes that Evercold is rooted in.
“Yoshi-P wore a shirt featuring Ritahtyn sas Arvina,” reads a reply. “You fight him in Cape Westwind. Capes are a garment worn on your back normally, BUT Mr. Ritahtyn has armor shaped to make him look like a Minotaur. And Minotaurs have a bull’s head. Now, who fights Bulls and uses a Cape?”
Their conclusion? “New job is Matador.” Another – which honestly has me convinced – is the one that touches on the Norse mythology specifically: “Mjolnir. That hammer is what’s coming back. That’s my random take.”
Responses support this idea, with a fan bringing up the fact that Ritahtyn sas Arvina’s name supposedly translates to “judge” in the Roegadyn language. “Judges have hammers. Norse expansion. It’s coming back.”

“Hammer has been a popular request,” adds another player. “It could definitely happen.” An older post regarding the new Evercold jobs and Yoshi-P’s shirt features similar theories – the hammer is a popular one, it seems.
“‘Ahtyn’ is Roegadyn for ‘Judge,'” exclaims a fan. “Judges have hammers. The new tank is going to wield a hammer.” Phew, all this talk of hammers and tanks… but what of the new DPS job?
“Dumb theory for the DPS job that can go a few ways,” somebody ponders. “‘Guess who’s back?’ What comes back when you throw it? Yo-yos. Dude with two shields as a weapon? So, a shield-based weapon that comes back when you throw it?”
That certainly would be interesting – although I’m still personally holding out for a ranged whip class of sorts. I was in the crowd when Yoshi-P was showing off his shirt, so I know I’m not alone there.
As people screamed “whip” and “hammer” and other guesses, Yoshi-P confirmed that there were already correct theories shouted his way – so, who really knows?
