Arkane's Dishonored always felt like a secret Thief sequel, and that's because it started life as one
Dishonored remains my personal favorite of Arkane Austin’s lineup. I appreciated the studio’s take on Prey, and even have a playthrough of Redfall under my belt (I’ll maintain it had the foundations of something great, though it never stuck the landing). It’s the 2012 sneak-em-up that won my heart, however. Atmospheric and stylish, it manages to walk the line between freeform stealth game, immersive sim, and bombastic action. In many ways, it felt like the secret Thief 4 that (at the time) didn’t exist. As its co-creators reveal, there’s a very good reason for this: it started life as exactly…
Shrugging off a Steam review bomb after Destiny 2 ends, Marathon tries its best in Season 2 reveal
With the end of Destiny 2’s development, Marathon, already struggling to hold onto players outside a small but loyal base, has suddenly been promoted to Bungie’s main and only live game. Unenviable expectations, and a Steam review bomb from disgruntled Destiny 2 fans, loom over the newly released developer deep dive for its new season, which tragically shares a name with one of Destiny 2’s most iconic activities – Nightfall, known to Guardians as a difficult type of dungeon-lite Strike. To put it mildly, Bungie faces a tough crowd. To put it less mildly, Bungie would have an easier time convincing…
Blizzard has released its next Diablo 4 patch notes, which solve a range of gripes blocking quest progression and incorrectly restricting rewards across the action RPG. The new update also takes aim at a few cheeky tricks with War Plans that could be used to spawn effectively infinite loot goblins at a time, or continuously fight the Amalgam of Rage over and over. It shuts down some other notable exploits along the way, and corrects tooltips in the wake of an earlier fix for Ball Lightning Sorcerers. The War Plans system has been an excellent and much-needed addition to the…
First X-Men '97 season 2 trailer sees the mutants battle Apocalypse across space and time and undoes Wolverine's shocking season 1 ending
Marvel Animation’s X-Men ‘97 Season 2 | Official Trailer – YouTube Watch On The first trailer for X-Men ’97 season 2 has arrived… and we’re ready for an intergalactic battle through time starring our favorite supergroup. In the brief clip, which can be viewed above, we pick up right where season 1 left off with the X-Men scattered across space and time. Jean Grey and Cyclops are stuck in 3960 A.D., with Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast in Ancient Egypt circa 3000 B.C. Logan also appears to be alive and well, despite having had his adamantium skeleton ripped apart by Magneto in…
Designating itself the first-ever anime FPS game, not just on Roblox, means these new Anime League codes are ready to make history. It’s a stretch, but we’re here for the confidence. If anything, it’s certainly the first time we’ve had a first-person look at Vegeta blasting down a baddie, and that is pretty cool. Whether Anime League is really the first anime FPS isn’t the point right now. It’s a Roblox game that’s picking up steam, and that means its codes are a commodity. Whether you’re dueling 1v1 or teaming up for 4v4 bouts, the aim is simple: outsmart, outshoot,…
Generative AI finally sends Hideo Kojima into space in new short film with Death Stranding 2 partner Nicolas Winding Refn, which was immediately blasted as AI slop
Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding 2 director Hideo Kojima has finally gone to space thanks to a new short film from Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, though you’d have to wonder if the price of admission was worth it. Reactions to the video, made with the aid of GenAI, are swiftly being met with disappointment from many of Kojima’s fans, to put it mildly. As reported by Women’s Wear Daily, the 14th edition of the Prada Mode event was previewed at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this week. Part of that involved the film in question, which sees Kojima traveling…
Haunting new Marathon Season 2 trailer amps up the horror, and our sleep paralysis demons are coming for us
Marathon Season 2: Nightfall is just around the corner, and as promised, Bungie’s now revealing what’s in store for us when it kicks off. In its latest cinematic, we get a thorough look at the new Night Marsh map, the Sentinel Runner shell, and what appears to be a fresh SMG addition. There is something very… off, about the trailer though, and I’m seeing a few extra limbs where they shouldn’t be – nothing to worry about, I’m sure. Throughout the Marathon Season 2 teaser we get to see plenty of newcomer Sentinel, though Bungie’s not giving anything away regarding…
"Of course" the director of Pragmata would love a sequel, but he's "not the only one who decides" that at Capcom
You know the interview is good when PR is freaking out. I asked Pragmata director Yonghee Cho and producer Naoto Oyama if they hope to see Pragmata become a new franchise for Capcom, following up on remarks from Capcom USA COO Rob Dyer.Oyama gives the expected response (via interpreter): “I honestly don’t know what the future holds. Like you said, it’s only been a month since Pragmata went on sale, so honestly, what I’m focused on is just trying to get as many people to experience Pragmata as I can. I’m focused on Pragmata itself.”So I asked again. This time,…
Can’t wait for The Witcher 4? You won’t have to. Long rumored and now confirmed, The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is a new DLC for the all-conquering CD Projekt Red RPG. With the developer teasing an upcoming anniversary livestream celebrating ten years of the Blood and Wine expansion, we were expecting to hear something. In the end, CDPR decided to get out ahead of the moment and just announce it now. Both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine are immaculate, self-contained adventures that are basically must-plays if you love The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The promise of…
