Disney quashes $1 billion deal with OpenAI after Sora video app shutters, vows to "continue to engage with AI platforms"
Disney is no longer planning to follow through with its agreement to invest $1 billion in OpenAI to bring user generated AI videos to its platforms, including Disney Plus. The massive entertainment conglomerate killed the deal following OpenAI’s announcement that its Sora video app is shutting down. One might guess that OpenAI is launching a new video platform that somehow revises its Sora plans, but the statement put out by the company (via THR) doesn’t indicate anything like that, so it’s either a secret, or this is the end for OpenAI’s user generated video ambitions.”We’re saying goodbye to Sora. To everyone…
Cornwall is overrun with mutant fish people and you are a fisherman with a nailgun in the boomer shooter BRINE
I’ve heard Cornwall is quite lovely this time of year. Still cool enough for a fresh pastie, warm enough to have fish and chips by the beach. Shame about all the mutant fish people that are hungry for death! Ah, no, sorry, I think I’ve gotten myself too enveloped within BRINE, a fast and heavy footed boomer shooter where you play as an angry fisherman who must defend the strange country from “crustacean cultists and piscine horrors.” I will say out the gate that BRINE isn’t pushing the boat out (pun obviously intended) when it comes to mechanical…
Open-world pirate games are so back: Windrose hits 1.5 million Steam wishlists as 800,000 players convince devs to leave the bangin' demo up until launch
I was psyched when I saw an open-world pirate survival game topping the list of most-played Steam Next Fest demos, and I was even more psyched to find out the demo is very good. I’ve since spent hours with Windrose’s Steam demo, crafting and building my base, sailing around the high seas, and pumping other ships full of cannonballs, and I am triply psyched to learn I’ll be able to continue doing so until the game’s early access launch.Developer Windrose Crew revealed as much in a new Steam update celebrating a staggering 1.5 million wishlists, not to mention 800,000 players…
As seminal oddball indie Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP hits 15 years of age, you can pick it up for less than a coffee
Let’s travel back in time, roughly to the late 2000s and early 2010s. It was a time where indie games were becoming more of a defined Separate Thing from blockbuster games. It certainly wasn’t the birth of indie games, but with the release of certain notable games like Fez, it did mark a change in who got to make money from them at the very least. But to me personally, there is no more quintessential indie game from that era than Superbrothers: Sword & Sorcery EP, which against my wishes has turned 15 today. I present this to…
After breaking GTA 6's record, the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer has crossed 1 billion views faster than any movie in history
The first Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer arrived in quite the unconventional way, and it really paid off given the fact that the clip has amassed around 1 billion views across all official channels across all platforms.Rather than just drop the trailer and call it a day, Marvel really gave the Avengers: Doomsday casting livestream a run for its money by deciding to launch in bite-sized clips over a span of 24 hours. Fans from all over the world were tasked with posting two seconds of the trailer on their personal Instagram accounts.GTA 6 previously held the record for most-viewed…
PlayStation are reportedly shuttering another first-party studio, this time from Call of Duty vet Jason Blundell
It sounds like Sony are continuing to do what they presumably coldly view as cost cutting. According to Jason Schreier, often known for his insider information, and a leak shared in a ResetEra thread, Dark Outlaw Games, a studio set up by former Call of Duty lead Jason Blundell, is being shut down. It’s unclear how many people this includes at this time. This may come as a bit of a surprise, given that Dark Outlaw Games was only set up last year. At the time of the studio’s announcement, Blundell said that it was “such a privilege…
Battlefield Hardline is the black sheep of the longrunning series. Instead of focusing on huge wars, the 2016 FPS game instead casts you as a police officer fighting the war on crime in downtown Miami. While this setting is unusual for a Battlefield game, the ‘Levolution’ tech from Battlefield 4 was implemented well for destructible city environments, and the multiplayer was praised as a highlight. Unfortunately, it’s this multiplayer component that’s being removed. The Battlefield Comms social media account published an article saying that Battlefield Hardline will be removed from the digital storefronts on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next…
I built the biggest, ugliest vase Double Fine's Kiln would let me and immediately got bullied by better potters
I decide the moment I get my hands on Kiln, the upcoming multiplayer video game from Double Fine where you fight as, with, and against pots of varying shapes and sizes, that I’m going to make the biggest, ugliest vase the editor will let me. I’ve not got long to do it, but I quickly scrobble through all the tools available to me and make an absolute mess of a jug. Gameplay abilities and functions are determined by the shape of your pot, and I’ll soon come to regret my actions.GDC 2026’s Day of the Devs event is technically public,…
EverQuest Legends is the 1999 MMO you know and love born again with more respect for your time
The year is 2026, and a new-but-not-really EverQuest is on the way. Announced today, EverQuest Legends is the same MMO some of you have been playing for coming up to 30 years, just without all the years of expansions. And the graphics look as they did upon launch. And there’s a few modern upgrades. Don’t ask me what the word same means. What seems to be a key difference between the original EverQuest and Legends is how much more approachable it will apparently be for solo players. According to the game’s website, you can still join groups of…
Bloodborne players are celebrating its 11th anniversary by replaying it. Please FromSoft, just give us a remaster
Spare a thought for Bloodborne fans at this time of year. It’s the hit action game’s 11th anniversary, and they’re celebrating by… playing it again. I suppose it helps dry their tears because Sony and FromSoftware can’t agree to remake or remaster the fan favorite game. Ever the folks to make the best of a bad situation, however, Return to Yharnam encourages fans to spend two weeks retracing their steps in FromSoftware’s brilliant world. Bloodborne quickly reached cult status when it was released in 2015, with its grim Victorian fantasy world providing something different to the more traditional dark fantasy…
