Former Overwatch lead Jeff Kaplan says he wants to put "Rust-like mechanics" in his new survival game "someday," but for now base-building is more like "Valheim and Subnautica"
Jeff Kaplan is best known as the original lead of Overwatch, but now that he’s split from Blizzard, it seems he wants his new game to be a little less PvP-centric – at least for now. Kaplan’s new studio, Kintsugiyama, is working on a Wild West survival game called The Legend of California, which is currently taking more cues from PvE-focused games than the brutal PvP of something like Rust.”Someday, I would like to introduce – on servers that want it – Rust-like mechanics,” Kaplan said in a recent Twitch stream, shared on Twitter by Jake Lucky. “But this building…
As Arc Raiders gets stale for some, lead dev says players "reaching the end of our content" are a top focus: "We want more for them"
Ahead of the March 31 Arc Raiders Flashpoint update, some longtime players seem to be drifting away from the game a bit, or at least approaching their fill of what it currently has to offer. The game’s still doing incredibly well, of course, and plenty of players are as hooked as ever. Monthly content drops and weekly patches have extended the road, but devs can never make content as fast as people consume it, so some hardcore players with hundreds of hours logged may be feeling repetition setting in after the second Expedition reset. This came up passively during our recent…
Project Hail Mary 2 reportedly "not out of the question" after the sci-fi film had the biggest non-franchise opening at the box office since Oppenheimer
Ryan Gosling’s big sci-fi blockbuster Project Hail Mary is a certified hit both at the box office and with critics, so much so that it’s not impossible that a sequel could materialize.THR cites an unnamed insider close to Project Hail Mary, saying it’s “not out of the question” that MGM Amazon could make a sequel. That said, it seems it all comes down to author Andy Weir, the writer of the novel Project Hail Mary, and whether he’s got another story to tell.Weir has previously stated he’s not against a sequel, and has even had a few ideas about where…
Former Diablo devs left in limbo after $65,000 in fake Kickstarter pledges overwhelm new ARPG Darkhaven: "We are taking a few more days to consider the best course of action"
Former Diablo and Diablo 2 devs have been left panicked after a crush of fake Kickstarter pledges came for their eerie fantasy ARPG Darkhaven. In a dev update on the crowdfunding website (h/t Phrasemaker), Diablo 2 artist and CEO of studio Moon Beast Productions Phil Shenk informs supporters, “We’ve verified that at least $65k in pledges were almost certainly insincere and won’t be collected. We’ve been in touch with Kickstarter, and they’ve given us the option to either keep the funds raised or cancel this campaign and refund all pledges.”Moon Beast doesn’t know what to do. “If we choose the latter,”…
The actor behind Baldur's Gate 3 vamp Astarion "definitely avoided a few roles" because the studios wanted "the Astarion thing"
Neil Newbon, the actor behind the devilishly enchanting vampire Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3, doesn’t want to be typecast in future projects.Newbon was a well-known actor before playing Astarion, having previously played major roles in Resident Evil 3 Remake, Resident Evil Village, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3, but you could argue his major breakout role was in Baldur’s Gate 3. That seems to be Newbon’s perception, anyway, as he says he’s been avoiding roles that are too similar to Astarion.”I’ve definitely avoided a few roles recently not because they were bad projects or anything, just because they, for me, the character—they…
Crimson Desert inexplicably changes the name of its fat cats to "loafy cats," and I might be the only person 100% on-board with this: "Litterally unplayable"
Crimson Desert developer Pearly Abyss has implemented a rather curious change to the new open-world action-adventure game: fat cats, previously aptly called “fat cats,” have had their names changed to “loafy cats.”I leafed through the latest patch notes for Crimson Desert and couldn’t find any mention of this language change, but GamesRadar+ guides editor Joel Franey was able to confirm that, indeed, fat cats are loafy now, not fat. And no, loafy cats aren’t a new feline species added to the game alongside fat cats. That would be too powerful. No, this is complete fat cat erasure. Pearl Abyss even…
Titanfall and Black Ops 3 enjoyers might like a new "movement shooter" the Splitgate devs are hoping to start playtesting soon
Having re-launched Splitgate 2 as Spligate: Arena Reloaded late last year, 1047 Games have now kicked off early work on a new shooter. Details are scarce aside from the fact you’ll be able to move around in it and that 1047 CEO Ian Proulx reckons it should appeal to fans of Titanfall and Call of Duty Blops 3. Oh, and that you can sign-up for to playtest it now.
Three weeks after being accidentally uploaded to Steam, the new Hunter: The Reckoning game is now official
Teyon has officially announced that a new Hunter: The Reckoning game is in development.Hunter: The Reckoning – Deathwish is set for release in 2027, and is based on the horror tabletop RPG set in the World of Darkness universe (which includes Vampire: The Masquerade), which has players fighting vampires, werewolves, and ghosts in a modern-day setting.“You are in the real world – New York, so real city – and the whole thing is that you’ve been living in a lie,” game director Piotr Łatocha told the official Xbox Wire blog.“As the player, you discover that there is a second world…
Welcome to the weekend! Time once again to kick back and enjoy a good old Netflix binge. As we near the end of the month, the streamer is still putting out great new shows, so we’ve pulled out three of them here to fill your next few days with laughter – and terror!Something Very Bad is Going to Happen leads the pack this week. The new horror series is executive produced by the Duffer Brothers (yes, them of Stranger Things fame), so you know this is going to be interesting. It’s backed up with the final season of Roseanne spin-off…
For better or worse, Max and Chloe are together again in Life is Strange: Reunion, which is out right now
A new Life is Strange game doesn’t always feel particularly odd given its sort of steady turn into a franchise. The last one was only in 2024 with Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, bringing back the original game’s Max Caulfield. This wasn’t necessarily a welcome return for all, and ended up being somewhat of a mixed bag. And now we come to now with a potentially odd entry, Life is Strange: Reunion, which is out today. As the subtitle suggests, and where the oddness comes in, Reunion reunites Max with the surprising return of Chloe Price. Big spoilers ahead…
