Marathon confirms its wipes aren't optional and lays out ambitious plans for first two seasons
While there were certainly a few creases to iron out, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Marathon’s Server Slam last weekend. Even with limited progression and content, it was an excellent glimpse at what Bungie has been cooking. Now, roughly 48 hours before its full launch, the studio has revealed some of its post-launch plans for Marathon. As well as showing us what’s to come in Season 1: First Step and Season 2: Nightfall (a name other Destiny players like myself might find familiar and surprising), it’s also confirmed that account wipes will be mandatory, unlike rival extraction shooter Arc…
Apple TV cancels Emmy-nominated '60s housewife comedy drama starring Kristen Wiig after 2 seasons
Apple TV has cancelled Palm Royale after just two seasons.According to Deadline, the Kristen Wiig-led comedy-drama will not return for a third season. Loosely based on the novel Mr. and Mrs. American Pie, the series stars Wiig as Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, who is obsessed with being among the high society of Palm Beach, Florida in the 1960s and attempts to get into the town’s most exclusive country club, the Palm Royale. It’s sort of like Mad Men-meets-Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar.Created by The Eyes of Tammy Faye screenwriter Abe Sylvia, the cast includes Ricky Martin, Josh Lucas, Leslie…
Just the mention of a Call of Duty Blackout revival last year was enough to get me amped, and now that Activision has revealed exactly what Black Ops Royale will entail, I’m even more excited. Call of Duty Warzone has felt pretty stale recently – the return of Verdansk last year was huge, but since then, there hasn’t been a similar, landmark moment that really got tongues wagging about the game. However, I think Black Ops Royale could end that rut. Sure, some personal nostalgia for the original CoD battle royale is going to help, but the fact that this…
Troubled free-to-play shooter, Highguard, is officially shutting down, little over six weeks after its high-profile launch, developer Wildlight Entertainment has confirmed.Highguard launched on January 26 following its bold announcement at The Game Awards in December, but despite initially reaching millions of players, according to its developer, player numbers quickly plummeted, and Wildlight laid off most of its development team the following month. Now, the California-based studio has confirmed that Highguard will shut down entirely on March 12.In an update posted on social media, it said the game had not been able to attract enough players to sustain development long-term. One final…
Scream 7 writer/director is bringing Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Dracula, and more Universal monsters to Netflix in a show that's described as an "adult Vampire Diaries"
Frankenstein’s monster, the Wolf Man, Dracula, and more of the classic Universal monsters are coming to TV in a new Netflix show from Scream 7 writer/director Kevin Williamson which he describes as an “adult Vampire Diaries.””Netflix and Universal were very kind to let me go direct Scream 7 and put some projects on hold and now I’m focused on those,” Williamson tells Esquire. “The one I’m writing right now is a show. You might call it an adult Vampire Diaries. It’s based in the Universal monster land. I get to play with some of those characters like Dracula and Frankenstein…
The above headline will not be a particularly surprising one, but just to make sure it’s absolutely clear, developer Wildlight have confirmed that their raid shooter Highguard will be closing its servers from next week, March 12th. The team confirmed as much in a post shared to the game’s official Twitter account, where it went into (very little) detail about what’s next. Player numbers very much are not something worth considering in the health or even reporting of a game, but I’ll mention it here all the same as it’s in this announcement post: more than two million…
The Division 2 just got a mode that Ubisoft views as "a reflection of what has always sat at the heart" of the series
The long-awaited arrival of the new Realism mode is being used to mark ten years since Tom Clancy’s The Division first launched. The cover shooter service game (a genre combination I’m sure will get me tossed into the Dark Zone in due course) hit the scene in 2016, with a sequel landing just three years later. And despite seemingly being on the back burner over at Ubisoft in recent years, if this anniversary event is an example of what’s to come, it might finally be time to try out the game that made me acutely aware of the VRAM issue…

Ex-Diablo 2 lead character artist says "there's no way you could ever" give the iconic ARPG a new act: "Would it be in a location that Diablo 3 or Diablo 4 has already fleshed out?"
Blizzard shocked the ARPG community last month with the surprise reveal of Diablo 2’s first new class in 25 years, leading to speculation that a whole new act could be on the way. However, according to former Diablo 2 lead character artist Phil Shenk, there’s “no way” that could happen. In a recent interview with Path of Exile co-creator Chris Wilson, in which Shenk is joined by Diablo 2 programmer Peter Hu and designer Erich Schaefer, Shenk says just the idea of a new class is “a really big event,” but that “everybody wants an act.”He continues, “I hadn’t even considered…
One of the Legend of Grimrock designers is making a spaceship puzzler inspired by System Shock
Reconfigure is the new “puzzle-RPG-FPS hybrid” from Antti Tiihonen – co-founder of Almost Human, and one of the designers behind “bloody brilliant” dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock. Where Grimrock threw you into a mountain and challenged you to find your way out, Reconfigure throws you into a starship that is in the process of being, wait for it, reconfigured. The on-board robots are busy feeding spare components to the engine, as they seek to maintain acceleration towards some mysterious destination. You are the vessel’s last human, and your task is to navigate a maze of passages, laser sentinels and pressure…
