Saros director won't say whether it's coming to PC, following report Sony plan to stop porting over their big singleplayer guns
I dunno if you heard earlier this month, but PlayStation are reportedly breaking up with us PC folks, at least when it comes to the PS5’s biggest singleplayer hitters. Asked where Returnal devs Housemarque’s new game Saros – due out next month – fits into that, its director has opted to remain tight-lipped.
In case it wasn’t already clear, Nvidia DLSS 5 has been a bit divisive since Nvidia demoed it last week at GTC. The new AI-based real-time neural renderer that ‘enhances’ the look of your games through generative AI has caught the ire of many gamers, developers, and other industry folk, and the latest to add to the pile-on are David Szymanski and Dave Oshry, developer of Dusk and CEO of its publisher, New Blood Interactive, respectively. Nvidia has been quick to try and temper criticism, with its CEO Jensen Huang saying much of the DLSS 5 criticism is completely wrong…
Dying Light: The Beast gets a free major Restored Land update today, with a new persistent world mode
Dying Light: The Beast gets a major new update today, which is free for all players. The new update, which is called Restored Land, adds what developer Techland calls a “highly challenging, solo experience that brings a new way to play Dying Light: The Beast”.The main difference in Restored Land is that it now features a permanent world, meaning everything you do remains that way. When zombies are killed they stay dead, and new ones don’t respawn. This also means that looted items don’t respawn, while the game has also been tweaked so that containers include fewer supplies and shops offer reduced…
Baldur's Gate 3 hotfix irons out "several crashes" Larian may or may not have accidentally introduced when fixing corrupted saves last month
A new Baldur’s Gate 3 hotfix is here, ironing out a few issues – including “several crashes” – that Larian may have accidentally introduced in its previous update, essentially turning the whole situation into a game of bug fix whack-a-mole.In the latest patch notes on its site for hotfix 36, Larian admits: “Our last small update, which aimed to resolve corrupted savegames affecting a number of players, seemed to have also introduced some performance issues that triggered crashes.”Seemingly, that’d be from the update that rolled out last month, so it’s not been too long of a wait. Even so, Larian…
Island city-builder Nova Roma releases today, and I'd have drowned all my Romans already if it weren't for those pesky gods
I have two dreams as mayor of an island town in Nova Roma, the new early access city-building game from Lion Shield and Hooded Horse. One is to erect a fantastic water network for my people – a sturdy yet poetic lattice of aqueducts, following their deft gradations down from the mountain rivers to cisterns gracefully spaced amid the insulae, forums, circuses and temples. In my reborn Rome, no populous bathhouse, tinkling fountain, or humble latrine shall ever run dry. With my other hand, I shall raise mighty dams, diverting the rivers away from my walls to avoid flooding…
Phreak isn't working on League of Legends anymore, he's on a secret new Riot project instead
David ‘Phreak’ Turley has confirmed that he’s no longer working as a game designer on League of Legends. In his patch 26.07 rundown video, the former LCS caster confirms that he’s stopped working on the MOBA directly and has instead transferred to another team within Riot. The 26.07 patch rundown will be his last video “for a while,” then, which some will lament, but others will no doubt rejoice over. Despite accruing a loyal fanbase during his time on the LCS broadcast, Phreak’s contributions to League of Legends as a game designer have left the community divided. Rightly or wrongly,…
‘I hope people say this is a bold game’: Housemarque on how Saros evolves Returnal’s punishing formula
Was Returnal too hard? That’s a question that Housemarque, the Finnish Sony first-party studio behind Resogun, Matterfall, and Super Stardust, wrestled with when developing its latest PlayStation exclusive, Saros.“For us, it was about not diluting the Returnal experience and actually just making sure that it could be more approachable to more people,” said creative director Gregory Louden.“The game is still going to kick you down. But the difference in Saros is that you come back stronger. It’s literally our tagline. But it doesn’t mean that it’s not a challenging game. It’s challenging and rewarding. So every death is valuable. For…
Fox McCloud joins The Super Mario Galaxy Movie roster, intensifying Super Smash Bros. movie speculation
A poster for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has revealed that Fox McCloud, star of the Star Fox and Smash Bros. games, will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. And our Super Smash Bros. Movie dreams have taken one giant leap towards reality. In the poster, which can be viewed below, Fox can be seen posing in front of Arwing, his signature spaceship, being admired by an unidentified (but impossibly cute) monkey. Fans were somehow able to identify Fox in a previous teaser by just a blurry screengrab of his leg alone, correctly speculating his appearance in the film.Fox McCloud…
Forza Horizon 6 system requirements confirm it’s no RAM guzzler – and it’ll run on Steam Deck too
Perhaps sensing competition in the field of Japan-flavoured arcade racing games, Forza Horizon 6 devs Playground Games have revealed the open-world vroomer’s system requirements. Agreeably, they’re a sensible balance of attainable low-end fare – at 1080p, a GTX 1650 and 16GB of RAM are apparently all that’s needed for 60fps – and the kind of hulking graphics bricks that you’d expect for 4K ray tracing. Only the most baby-oiled of hypercars for the RX 9070 XT owners, you understand, though support for lil’ handhelds like the Steam Deck is confirmed as well.
Minecraft's new crop of babies will "deepen your bond" with your animals, but make sure to keep them safe
The Minecraft Tiny Takeover has arrived, transforming the sandbox game’s younger cast with new-look models, complete with fresh sounds. Whether you’re setting up a farm or love having pets around the house, it’s an overhaul that brings a little more personality to proceedings, and even offers you the secret to eternal youth – at least for your critters. Ahead of its launch, I spoke to Minecraft senior product manager Anna Lundgren to ask her about what went into this especially cute update. With more than 100 new textures, Tiny Takeover is one of the biggest cosmetic overhauls Minecraft has seen,…
