Amiibo cards are back, and I’m not talking about the Street Fighter 6 cards released alongside the Switch 2. Nintendo UK has restocked Animal Crossing amiibo card packs Series 1, 2, 3, 5, and even the mega-adorable Sanrio packs are available again. These aren’t brand-new releases, and instead, the Switch 2 accessories are the same old packs as before, if that’s not obvious from the old 3DS and WiiU inclusions on the packaging, but that’s still a big deal. There are a ton of fake versions of these cards around, and sealed packs continue to be sold at inflated prices at…
With its new season update trailer, Apex Legends would like you to know it has invented windows
Apex Legends season 28 launches on February 10th, and appears to add competitive glazing to the now 7-year-old battle royale. The game’s “newest tactical mechanic”, so says the announcement post, is Hardlight Mesh, a glowy, bullet-resistant window that teams can either throw up to defend a hidey hole or, with enough lead, rockets, and/or angry kicks, break down to form a new ingress point. Holes in walls? That’s old hat. ApeLegs is disrupting holes in walls. There’ll probably be a TechCrunch article on it.
Helldivers 2 tops the Steam sales charts for its second birthday, thanks to a new tank and returning favorite weapon
New Helldivers 2 update Into the Unjust has dropped in to deliver some serious managed democracy, and it’s already pushed the beloved co-op game all the way up to the top of Steam’s sales charts. The ‘Into the Unjust’ patch brings a new heavy tank stratagem into play, makes the Automatons more of a challenge, and sees the addition of the Siege Breakers warbond, which reintroduces one of the most beloved and powerful weapons from the original Helldivers. Helldivers 2 was my personal game of the year back in 2024. It’s been through many ups and downs as Arrowhead swung…
With Nioh 3, Team Ninja has made a ‘masocore’ game entirely its own.I can understand why Nioh 3 producer Fumihiko Yasuda and the team refer to Nioh and their other tough-as-nails titles as ‘masocore’, after all, they might be heavily inspired by FromSoftware’s slate of monolithic action games, but they strive to give each game a unique atmosphere and feel, along with mechanics that set them apart from the pack. So far, the results have been mixed. While I can’t complain about the core gameplay mechanics in Rise of the Ronin or Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, the former took too much…
High-end live streaming mixers can cost $499, but this one somehow costs $49 – is OneOdio's Solocaster too good to be true, or a new budget hero?
Audio brand OneOdio has piqued my interest today as it’s launched a brand new audio interface geared at gaming live streamers and content creators. In my opinion, we don’t see enough brands trying to streamline audio with devices like these, but the reason this one has caught my eye is that it looks eerily similar to one of the very best streaming mixers, the RodeCaster Duo.Complete with colorful lighting, physical faders, and some multi-function FX pads, the new OneOdio Solocaster looks exactly like a wannabe RodeCaster. But being very familiar with that device and its premium $499 price, my jaw…
Epic will lean harder on Fortnite to drive third-party sales on Epic Games Store, with 100 licensed tie-ins a year
Epic have discussed their latest plans for growing the Epic Games Store’s audience and stealing more eyeballs from industry overlords Steam. One side of it is launching a proper unified multiplatform store and shared libraries across PC and mobile, alongside better performance and features such as voice chat. The other side of it is channelling the brand clout of Fortnite to increase sales of third party releases, with a new official program of Fortnite cosmetics and Epic Store avatars for people who buy games from participating developers. They’re going to do upwards of 100 hats (or equivalent) a year,…
Hytale dev reminds players that new features are "half-baked on purpose" and that chasing "short-term satisfaction" is not the way
Hytale’s heroic rescue from Riot Games and its unexpectedly rapid revival always came with a big caveat. By Hypixel’s own admission, the game would be scrappy and constantly evolving by design – the studio’s CEO, Simon Collins-Laflamme, said before release that it was intentionally launching an early build of Hytale that is “not good enough,” but hoped to build it up over time with the community. At no stage was a feature-rich, totally stable product promised to players. However, some appear to have forgotten what Hypixel’s strategy is, and why it’s important. Collins-Laflamme has now provided the community with some…
Nintendo president, Shuntaro Furukawa, has declined to comment on potential plans to mark The Legend of Zelda series’ 40th anniversary this year. The Zelda franchise is the second major Nintendo franchise to celebrate its 40th anniversary in the last 12 months, after Super Mario Bros., which currently has its own dedicated promotional campaign across games, merchandise, and the upcoming movie sequel. The first Legend of Zelda game was released for the Famicom on February 21, 1986, followed by the NES in North America and Europe in August 1987.During its latest earnings call, translated by VGC, Nintendo president Furukawa was asked directly if the…

Amazon's Fallout countdown delivers possibly the only thing more pointless than a New Vegas or Fallout 3 remaster
While Amazon have been gradually dropping episodes of their Fallout show’s second series,a timer has been ticking away. It’s been on the show’s website, which is a little interactive map. Surely this timer, set to expire once the final episode of the series went live, could herald the reveal of Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3 remasters Bethesda may have in the works, some fans speculated.
