After selling more than 70 million copies in its first 15 years, side-scrolling sandbox gem Terraria is done with promising final updates.
Developer Re-Logic is celebrating its iconic crafty-survive-athon’s 15th anniversary with some stats, starting off with a humble brag: Terraria’s sold about 70 million copies. PC takes up the largest chunk of the pie as 39.6 million people bought it on the platform, while 10.7 million people bought the game across all consoles and 19.7 people bought it on mobile devices.
Not only can Terraria boast about its wild sales stats – seriously, it’s the 7th best-selling game of all time – it also holds some impressive concurrent player numbers. On average this year, about 461,000 PC players logged into the game every single day. This past year’s daily player count on PC also peaked at 1.4 million people.

Finally, Re-Logic shares that the average Terraria player has sunk 101 hours and 18 minutes into the game over the last decade and a half.
“Fifteen Years?! That is a long time indeed! That’s 131,400 hours – which quite a few of you have chosen to spend with our humble game,” the dev writes in a recent blog post. “To say that reaching this milestone is equal parts insane and humbling is a massive understatement. It is really hard to put into words what your support for these many years has meant to our little studio.”
“Simply put, you all are the engine that makes this all work. Your support allows us to keep going, keep expanding upon Terraria, without having to fall back to price increases or microtransactions. This is becoming increasingly rare in modern gaming, and we cannot thank you enough for making what we do every day possible.”
“So, where does the path lead from here? What does the future hold for Terraria and Re-Logic?” The developer then confirms crossplay is in the works, “and that Terraria Updates will continue beyond 1.4.6/Crossplay.” Details on that upcoming 1.4.6 update are pretty non-existent for now, but the indie dev “will share when the time is right.”
Terraria has become somewhat infamous as its developers promised a final update back in 2020. Over the next five years, fans waited for and eventually enjoyed about five more ‘final’ updates, though Re-Logic seems done with promising finality for the evergreen hit.
