As discussions about GTA 6 costing $80 or even $100 continue to strike fear into the hearts of many, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has commented on keeping the game affordable.
While there hasn’t really been concrete evidence – or anything to actually spur the discussion – everyone collectively decided one day to fear that GTA 6 would have a high price point. For years, people have been speculating whether Rockstar will charge more than the typical game price, with the prevailing thought being that if any game could get away with it, it would be one as anticipated as GTA 6. And while the idea of a $100 GTA was probably a bit over the top, with Nintendo charging $80 for Mario Kart World, the floodgate was opened for others to follow suit.
When asked about the affordability of GTA 6 in a recent investors meeting, Zelnick explained that “we do feel a compact with the consumer” when it comes to pricing. He adds, “We’ve talked about for a very long time to deliver way more value than what we charge. I think we’re known for that.”
Zelnick adds that “we’re in the business of entertaining people. We’re not in the business of creating revenue. Revenue comes from entertaining people.” He also says that Take-Two wants “everyone to be able to engage,” saying that “on a real basis, we’re making it more and more affordable and more and more accessible.”
Of course, this doesn’t mean that there won’t be ways to charge more, GTA Online is obviously a huge way to make money after the fact. Plus, this is the same Take-Two whose 2K Games label revealed four separate versions of WWE 2K26 before any footage was shown, with the $100, $130, and $150 versions all releasing a week before the game’s actual release. Now, maybe GTA 6 itself could be a regular-priced game, but I suspect a large group of people would easily pay $100 or more to get access to it a week before everyone else.
GTA 6 physical copies will not be delayed to avoid leaks, says Take-Two CEO: “That’s not the plan.”
