Players are exploring the possibilities in Pokemon Pokopia, Nintendo’s new sandbox based on the ever-popular pocket monsters. The greatest creation thus far, at least as far as we can see, is a functioning calculator, built entirely out of what the island offers.
Twitter user Taronow0530 is behind the incredible bit of digital engineering. On a gigantic screen are groups of lights, laid out like an old LED display to allow for two single digits, separated by what can be a plus or minus sign, then below them, an equals sign, and another digit.

Seeing it in motion really brings to mind early Minecraft creations, where people were just feeling out the mechanical possibilities within the open-world. Nowadays, there are in-depth guides for practically anything you’d like to achieve, but 15 years ago, someone getting a conveyor belt moving was impressive.
They include a topdown view of the whole circuit, and it’s just mind-boggling. A huge landmass is needed, and the amount of time and precision needed is extraordinary. This game’s been out mere weeks, and we’re already up to this level of creativity. What comes next can only be even more exciting.
