April’s new game releases include Capcom’s Pragmata, PlayStation’s Saros, and other key releases across PC and consoles.

After March topped up our game piles with the likes of Marathon, Pokémon Pokopia, and Monster Hunter Stories 3, April will see Pokémon Champions, Double Fine’s Kiln, Diablo IV – Lord of Hatred, and more arrive on shelves.

Viral social media hit, Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, will also release for Nintendo Switch this month, alongside Hades 2 for consoles, and Starfield’s big DLC expansion, Terran Armada, which also makes its PlayStation 5 debut.

Looking ahead to future new game release dates, Forza Horizon 6, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, 007: First Light, and Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight are set to be released in May.

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG, Starfield, is finally coming to PlayStation 5 this month, alongside two pieces of new content on all platforms. Terran Armada will introduce new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards. Meanwhile, Free Lanes will “deepen the core Starfield experience for both new and returning players,” according to Bethesda.

    Pokémon Champions

    Wednesday, April 8 (Switch)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Pokémon Champions is a ‘free to start’ Switch game focused on battling, with a mobile version coming later this year. Players will be able to assemble and tweak a team of Pokémon and then battle others online. For more, read our hands-on report and interview with the game’s director.

    Beyond Words

Thursday, April 9 (PS5, Xbox, Switch, PC)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Beyond Words is a roguelike word game by a new studio formed by the creators of GoldenEye and TimeSplitters, after the sad news in 2023 that their Timesplitters revival had been canceled. According to its description, Beyond Words is a “genre-defining fusion of roguelike strategy and word-crafting”.

    Hades 2

    Tuesday, April 14 (Xbox, PS5)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Hades 2 is finally coming to other console platforms, having previously been a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive. Announced in December 2022, Hades 2 is a direct sequel to its predecessor, which won multiple Game of the Year awards.

    Mouse: P.I. for Hire

Thursday, April 16 (PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox, PC)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Mouse: P.I. for Hire is a striking-looking first-person shooter, with character designs loosely based on early Mickey Mouse cartoons. The 2.5D shooter sees players finding clues and solving puzzles, in addition to shootouts.

    Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

    Thursday, April 16 (Switch)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a life sim where players create Mii characters, make them befriend each other, and try to improve the overall happiness of the island they live on. Despite Nintendo restricting on-console media sharing with the title, social media quickly filled with Tomodachi Life videos last month, following the release of a free demo.

    Pragmata

    Friday, April 17 (PS5, Switch 2, Xbox)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

A rare original IP from the makers of Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, Pragmata is an action game with a “hacking twist”, according to Capcom, as players must multitask shooting robot enemies and simultaneously hacking their defenses with a puzzle mini-game.

    Masters of Albion

    Wednesday, April 22 (PC)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Masters of Albion is the next god game from acclaimed designer Peter Molyneux, from a development team comprised of veterans from projects such as Black & White and Dungeon Keeper. Previously, Molyneux has said he sees Masters of Albion as a chance at redemption after “overpromising” on ambitious projects like the online mobile titles, Curiosity: What’s in the Cube.

    Kiln

Thursday, April 23 (PS5, Xbox, PC)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

The next original game from Double Fine Productions is described as an “online multiplayer pottery party brawler”. Players take control of a small spirit, who can’t battle unprotected and so decides to create some armor. Players sculpt this armor out of clay using a pottery wheel, meaning they have full control over its appearance and properties.

    Saros

    Thursday, April 30 (PS5)

April’s upcoming games: Pragmata, Pokémon, Saros, and more

Housemarque’s follow-up to acclaimed shooter Returnal is again a third-person shooter that melds bullet hell games with modern roguelites. However, this time, players will be given far more options to upgrade their suit and their weaponry, offering a sense of permanent progression.
