Luigi voice actor Charlie Day is down to bring Luigi’s Mansion to the big screen.
“I would be thrilled to do Luigi’s Mansion, just because it’s such a fun game,” Day told ScreenRant. “And not that you would make it like a horror movie for kids, but it could have some more sort of jump scares in it, which would be fun.”
“Everybody loves a jump scare,” added his co-star Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Toad, while Princess Peach star Anya Taylor-Joy quipped, “Especially three-year-olds.”
“It does seem like it would make a great movie,” he continued. “But I am not… They don’t put me in charge of movie studios and for good reason. I got no idea… I wouldn’t want the job, personally. Don’t give me that. It’d be a lot of pressure. But if they do it, I’m in.”
Luigi’s Mansion was a GameCube launch title back in 2001 and sees the titular green-capped plumber fighting off ghouls with a ghost-busting vacuum cleaner supplied by Professor E. Gadd. Both the mansion and its characters (E. Gadd and King Boo) have appeared in subsequent games. A 3DS remake and sequels for the 3DS and Switch have also followed.
Day reprises his role as Luigi in the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Alongside Chris Pratt, Jack Black, and Anya Taylor-Joy, who are back as Mario, Bowser, and Princess Peach, Brie Larson, Donald Glover, and Benny Safdie join the cast of the sequel as Princess Rosalina, Yoshi, and Bowser Jr.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie arrives in theaters on April 1. In the meantime, take a look at our guide to all the other upcoming video game movies on the way in 2026 and beyond.
