Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss is reportedly looking into developing a Nintendo Switch 2 version of the open-world game.
Crimson Desert is definitely one of the biggest games of 2026. Not only was it one of the most anticipated games before its release, but the game sold three million copies in five days post-launch. And even with “Mixed” Steam reviews at first, players seem to have taken to it, with that rating becoming a Very Positive in the days following. However, its also one of the biggest games of 2026 in the sense of ‘good lord there’s a whole lotta video game in there,’ and naturally, when it comes to a game that you’ll likely sink many hours into, having a handheld option for it is always a positive.
In a shareholders’ meeting attended by Korean outlet Yonhap News Agency, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-young (via machine translation) is asked by a shareholder about support for the Nintendo Switch 2, to which the CEO responds that compared to the likes of PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, the Switch 2 has lower specs, and as such, the game would presumably have to make some cutbacks in places. However, the CEO reportedly notes that, internally, the team is doing research and development on if a Switch 2 version of the game is possible.
So far, the Switch 2 has proven it can handle some pretty beefy games, with the likes of Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Resident Evil Requiem, and Cyberpunk 2077 all having ports that look and run shockingly good, and considering Crimson Desert even works on an Xbox Series S, I don’t feel like Switch 2 is entirely out of the question.
