Fortunately, things have changed considerably across the gaming landscape, making it easier than ever to play with your friends across a variety of platforms.
With players flooding back to Overwatch, it’s important to know about some of the changes made to crossplay and cross-progression since these features were first introduced. No matter how you’d prefer to utilize the Overwatch crossplay and cross-progression features in the free PC game, here’s everything you need to know to get it up and running.
Overwatch crossplay
Overwatch supports crossplay and cross-platform progression, so you can join your friends on any available platform of your choosing. Overwatch is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
You don’t have to do anything to enable crossplay when playing on PC, and you can’t disable this feature. Console users can disable crossplay, though the methods to do so vary depending on the system you’re playing on.
On August 29, 2025, Blizzard updated Overwatch to allow keyboard and mouse console players to play in the PC Pool, now renamed to the Mouse and Keyboard Pool. If you use a controller while playing on console, you won’t enter this pool. However, if you’re playing on PC using a controller, you automatically are sorted into the Mouse and Keyboard Pool.
Overwatch cross-platform progression
Cross-platform progression is also available for Overwatch, but be aware that your Battle.net account can only link to a single PlayStation, Xbox, or Nintendo Switch account. Equally, your console cannot link to multiple Battle.net accounts.
As you might expect, all Overwatch cross-platform progression is stored on your Battle.net account rather than your console, including cosmetics, points, and achievements. If you’ve linked your PlayStation or Xbox accounts, your in-game wallet will be shared and accessible across platforms.
It’s slightly different for the Nintendo Switch – all currency purchased or redeemed on the Nintendo Switch remains exclusively on the platform. This doesn’t extend to currency earned in-game, which may be spent on any platform you choose.
Gameplay statistics and skill ratings are handled a bit differently for players who merge their Battle.net PC accounts with consoles. Your gameplay statistics and skill rating are separated by input pool, taking into account the difference between playing on a controller versus a mouse and keyboard.
As far as individual values are concerned, Overwatch merges your statistics and uses the best value for each category, including kill streaks and hero accuracy. This also extends to endorsements, which retain the highest value across platforms.
How to link your console and Battle.net accounts
Navigate to the ‘Connections’ menu from your Battle.net account management page, then select the relevant ‘+ Connect’ prompt from the list and follow the instructions to link your profiles together. If you already have a Battle.net account linked to your console, you can easily unlink it from the same menu and immediately link your new account.
Be warned: Blizzard has implemented a cooldown for changing account links to prevent misuse, so it’s important to be absolutely certain that you’re linking the correct accounts. If you connect the wrong PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, or Nintendo account, you’ll have to wait 90 days to put it right.
