Neil Newbon, the actor behind Astarion from Baldur’s Gate 3, has completed his two-year-long playthrough of the game and surprise, surprise, he loved it.
With all due respect to Newbon, there’s very little that hasn’t been said about the greatness of Baldur’s Gate 3. The game was a triumphant sweep at all of the major game award shows from 2023, topped many GOTY lists that year, and scooped up all sorts of other prestigious awards for various elements like music, performances, and narrative. Still, it’s neat to hear Newbon’s unique perspective as someone who worked on the game since 2019 as an actor.
Watch On
Newbon began his 126-part playthrough of Baldur’s Gate 3 more than two years ago, playing as a half-elf druid named Bow’ee alongside his friend and horror writer Tom de Ville. The duo agreed that they probably wouldn’t embark on a new save file any time soon, as Baldur’s Gate 3 is “a two-year game, we found out” but Newbon said he’ll be “exploring” the extensive collection of mods available online in his personal time. After a second of thought, he then admitted another Baldur’s Gate 3 run with “the stupidest mods we could find” would be “fun,” and as much as I sympathize with Newbon and the potentially enormous loss of his free time, I wholeheartedly agree that that sounds very fun indeed.
The thing I wanted more of from Baldur’s Gate 3 is also something Larian wants to improve on in Divinity: “More interaction between companions”
