What is the Divinity release date? A new Divinity game is on the way, and thanks to a world premiere reveal, we’ve taken a first look at Larian’s gory new RPG and its hopes to bring you a game “with greater breadth and depth than ever before.”
It’s hard to imagine a follow-up that could rival Baldur’s Gate 3, but if I can be honest, I’ve always enjoyed the Divinity series slightly more. There’s not much in it, but Divinity’s character creation freedom and penchant for straying into weirdness create much more mystery and unexpected moments than its DnD game counterpart. Join us as we delve into what we know about Divinity so far, and of course there’s fire, lots of fire.

Divinity release date estimate
Divinity currently doesn’t have a set release date, though we imagine it’ll be some time in 2028. If Divinity does arrive sooner, it will be as an early access launch in 2027. It was announced at The Game Awards 2025 and didn’t show any gameplay.

Divinity trailers
There’s currently only one trailer, the world premiere of Divinity that was shown at The Game Awards 2025. The Divinity trailer itself is very dark; a festival full of gleeful children, men on stilts, market sellers, and those just enjoying a day out in the sunshine soon descends into something much more sinister.
The happy scene is soon revealed to be a ritualistic celebration, where a man wrapped in chains and strapped to a post is being sacrificed in a Wicker Man-style totem. Around him, people in masks whip themselves, and the crowd claps in joy as the man is set ablaze to the backdrop of a rip in the sky and what looks like an eclipse as darkness settles in.
The sacrifice is to appease a god or entity, but the upbeat folk music and cries of celebration soon change as something crawls from the burning man’s melted skin, dropping to the floor and growing tendrils. As the fire spreads, the man explodes into a black haze, fire shoots to the sky, and whatever god they were trying to appeal to seems pretty angry. The villagers flee the scene, and we’re left with a terrifyingly beautiful shrine and what appears to be the center of our story.

Divinity story
Larian has said that Divinity is not Divinity: Original Sin 3, and there won’t be any need to have experience with the first two games, so for those that discovered Larian through Baldur’s Gate 3, you’re in luck! It also says that the shrine is a statue called the Hellstone and was created for the community and team to rally around as “we’re all increasingly divorced from physicality.”
So far, the artwork and imagery we’ve seen from Divinity is incredibly gruesome, and we expect Divinity to take a much darker turn from previous games if the trailer is anything to go by. Though we’re sure it’ll keep that comedic flair it’s known for, the game wouldn’t be Divinity without its cutting voice lines and array of quirky characters.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest Divinity news, but in the memeantime, heck out the other upcoming PC games we’re looking forward to and the best RPGs you can play right now.
