What is the Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic release date? The Old Republic represents the longest single era in Star Wars history. Spanning over 24,000 years, some of the galaxy far, far away’s most mythical moments took place during the period. Now, a new yarn is set to be spun, as the freshly formed Arcanaut Studios, working in tandem with Lucasfilm Games, is developing a single-player narrative RPG set during the Old Republic.
Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic is a spiritual successor to the iconic Knights of the Old Republic games, with the series’ director and Arcanaut Studios CEO Casey Hudson returning to helm this brand-new adventure. The studio has some serious pedigree, boasting ex-Bioware devs and even the likes of Cordy Rierson, who worked as a producer on the excellent Revenge of the Sith videogame. Suffice it to say, this is a powerhouse team that knows how to make incredible RPGs, as well as some of the best Star Wars games out there.

Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic release date estimate
We expect Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic to launch sometime in 2029. Though Arcanaut Studios only formed in 2025, Casey Hudson has stated that the game will arrive before 2030.
FOTOR clearly has quite the development cycle ahead of it, prompting concerns that we wouldn’t see it until at least the turn of the new decade. However, writing on X, Hudson assuages these fears: “Don’t worry about the ‘not till 2030’ rumors. Game will be out before then. I’m not getting any younger!”
So far, it’s been revealed FOTOR will be an “epic interactive adventure across a galaxy on the brink of rebirth where every decision shapes your path towards light or darkness.” This certainly indicates that the morality system present in the KOTOR games will be back in some capacity, reinforcing the link between the Old Republic games.
Speaking to the official Star Wars site, Hudson says FOTOR will focus on “fundamental pillars of the franchise such as innovative storytelling, memorable characters, challenging gameplay, and immersive agency in the Star Wars galaxy.”
Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic trailer
So far, we’ve only been served up a teaser unveiling Fate of the Old Republic. The trailer, which aired during The Game Awards 2025, gave us a glimpse at who we assume to be the game’s main protagonist (barring some form of character customization), alongside her companions. Most notably, the trio passes by what appears to be a crashed Interdictor-class cruiser, the model utilized by Darth Revan and Darth Malak.
This is incredibly significant, as it evidences that FOTOR could take place during, or even after, the Jedi Civil War. This would align with the “rebirth” mentioned in the teaser’s video description. By extension, this would suggest that Revan could make a return, though we’d expect to see him materialize through lore snippets or even the odd holocron.
And that’s everything we know about Star Wars Fate of the Old Republic for now. Stay tuned for further updates as development continues, though you might be waiting a while before we get our first major content drop. In the meantime, you can check out more of the best space games that’ll transport you to other worlds.
