Final Fantasy 7 Remake series producer Naoki Hamaguchi says you’ll have to wait and see if Final Fantasy 7 Revelation ends up linking to Advent Children.
Speaking to RPGSite, Hamaguchi is asked about comments from Final Fantasy 7 Remake co-director Tetsuya Nomura and original Final Fantasy 7 director Yoshinori Kitase. In 2023, Nomura told The Guardian “If you play right through to the end, it will link up [to Advent Children] so you don’t need to worry about that,” while Kitase told GamesRadar+, “We are finally going to link up with Advent Children, that is going to be part of canon”.
However, Hamaguchi is playing a bit more coy than his fellow Final Fantasy 7 icons, telling RPGSite, “I don’t believe we’ve publicly claimed or stated it’s going to be exactly that” in reference to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy linking to Advent Children. He adds, “I’d like for players to play Revelation and see for themselves, what the conclusion of the journey holds, and see about that.”
Given Nomura and Kitase’s comments, I feel like it’s very likely that the Advent Children link will happen, but keeping it vague and a bit of a mystery is definitely the better way to market an upcoming game. The same way that the inevitable comments about Final Fantasy 7 Revelation being a great entry point will no doubt come up as we get closer to release, despite multiple games, a film, and two remakes’ worth of baggage being wrapped up within it.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation’s story changes based on your choices, but director Naoki Hamaguchi says the JRPG will have a “singular ending.”
