Star Wars Zero Company, the upcoming strategy game from a team of XCOM veterans, is releasing August 27 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, as confirmed in an action-packed gameplay trailer at Summer Game Fest.
The release date leaked this week just a day before the big show, which takes some of the wind out of the big reveal’s sails, but at least we have a new trailer to pore over. In it, we see something rather surreal: the turn-based, tactical gameplay we’ve long associated with the XCOM series, but Star Wars-flavored. And it indeed looks very Star Wars, both in terms of production value and authenticity to the world of Lucasfilm, which collaborated closely with developer Bit Reactor.

“We’ve worked hand-in-hand with Lucasfilm Games to create an authentic Star Wars story packed with unique new characters, robust character customization, a new ship, Separatist Droids and much more, all rooted in the conflict of The Clone Wars.”
Star Wars Zero Company is a collaborative effort between Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order studio Respawn and Bit Reactor, a studio founded by veterans of XCOM and Civilization developer Firaxis. The story takes place in the Clone Wars era and follows a ragtag outfit of mercenaries including a Clone Trooper, a Mandalorian of the ancient Clan Verminoth, a Jedi Padawan, and more. Under the banner of Zero Company, they’re tasked with tracking down Separatist cult leader Kundri Fathom and putting a stop to his wicked deeds.
